POLITICAL SELF EXERCISE

1. Identify regions in the Philippines and specific values or beliefs

found in that region.

Cordillera Administrative Region ( Ifugao)

Values ; Culture of the Ifugao people values kinship, family ties,
religious and cultural beliefs. They're unique among all ethnic groups
in North Luzon for their interesting customs and traditions.

Belief : About half of all Ifugaos have embraced Christianity but their
animist beliefs have been absorbed into their Christian beliefs. The
Ifugao have traditionally believed their lives were ruled by spirits
called anitos. Many Ifugao still believe the universe was divided into
five levels.
Region 7 ( Cebu City

Values : “Espirituhanon”—belief in God, spiritual beings, and life after

death; “Garbo”—the dignity and pride with which the Cebuano
protects his or her sense of self-esteem; and, “Lumadnon”—the love
for one's family, origin, and community.

Belief : The majority of Cebuanos are Roman Catholic, with many in

rural areas synchronizing Catholicism with indigenous Bisayan folk
religion. A minority of Cebuanos (specifically those in Mindanao) are
Muslim, or in mixed Chinese-Cebuano families, incorporate Catholic
beliefs with aspects of Buddhism or Taoism.
Region 10 ( Bukidnon )

Values : The Bukidnons are one of the traditionalistic ethnic groups in

the southern Philippines

Beliefs : Each Bukidnon has his/her personal guardian spirits. Finally,

there are the gimokod, or multiple souls within one's body, which may
leave and have to be called back by an intermediary (baylan ) to avert
death. Religious Practitioners. Catholic priests are the principal
religious figures to whom Bukidnon turn today.

1. Do you think diversity is positive or negative? Why or why not?

Diversity is one of the most important features of any society. It

not only creates an inclusive environment, but also brings together
people with different experiences, views, and ideas. However, by
nature, diversity can sometimes lead to conflicts in culture and
religion. Therefore, the best way to deal with diversity is to accept
that it's a part of life.

2. How does this difference in values and beliefs make us one as a

Filipino nation?

Diversity is beneficial as long as the many ideals and cultures do

not conflict. Diversity exposes people to a wide range of ideas,
lifestyles, foods, music, literature, and other significant aspects of
life that improve a person's existence. A national identity is what
unites a country's people together. This might be developed around
religion or language in certain nations, but these two
characteristics are not very effective building blocks for national
identity. As a result, variety is both enriching and serves as a
unifying factor that keeps people united as a country. The Filipinos
are no exception, and despite their many distinctions, they are
united as a country.

PRESENCE OF THE ELEMNTS LIKE IN MY DAILY LIFE LIKE LANGUAGE
CULTURE LANGUAGES, COLORS, NATION'S HISTORY, BLOOD TIES, CULTURE,
MUSIC, CUISINE, RADIO, TELEVISION

1. WHAT ARE THE MAJOR INFLUENCES ON YOUR IDEA ABOUT NATIONAL

CULTURE AND LANGUAGE DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE LIVE IN A WORLD

THAT WE CIRCLE THRU THIS STUFF EVERY DAY JUST LIKE LANGUAGE.
