Home Away from Home

Looking out of the bus, Elena and Ramon could see the farm under
the hot sun. they could see farmers working in the field. While
travelling, Ramon asked Elena if where they were already and Elena
answered that they are in the beautiful town of Abuyog, Leyte. He also
asked if Elena knows where to get off the bus going to Celso’s
farmhouse. She just told Ramon that she still remember where Celso
get off the bus the last time they passed there but forgot the actual
place.
The bus finally came to a little village which looked old, peaceful
and half-asleep. At the bus stop, was their former class mate Celso with
his dog, Batik.
The three friends walked down the hot, dusty road and came to a
dark, smelly little shop. Elena ordered some drinks and gladly ate some
juicy rambutans.
After a short walk, they came to an old farmhouse. It was a two-
storey high, with white washed walls and a big porch. Through the open
door, they could see a grandfather clock. Elena felt rather disappointed
by the near-empty place.
However, Ramon and Elena cheered up when Celso led them into
the big, cool kitchen. Dinner was laid out on the big table. There were
homemade cakes and several dishes on the table like lechon manok and
vegetable which taken from the farm this morning. Ramon said that he
know why they are so plump and they laughed and laughed.
Ramon and Elana had a marvelous dinner that night and soon felt
quite at home in the big farmhouse.
