What do YouTube, iTunes, Pandora, and Spotify have in common? You might
want to tune in more frequently if you mentioned that these are some of your favorite
go-to places to hear your favorite music. Did you know that listening to the proper
music while studying can reduce stress, increase focus, make you smarter? It is real.
Playing music while reviewing can be a great way to enhance your studying
experience, as it can improve your focus, mood, and overall productivity. However, the
type of music you choose can have a significant impact on how effective this
method is, as certain genres and songs – either classic, pop, rock, etc., can enhance
or impair your capacity for concentration. According to Sridharan et al. (2007), music
— classical music, specifically — can help your brain absorb and interpret new
information more easily. One of the most significant benefits of playing music while
reviewing is that it can help block out distractions and improve your focus. When you
are listening to music that you enjoy, it can create a pleasant background noise that
helps to drown out other noises that may be happening around you, such as
conversations, traffic, or other environmental sounds. This can be particularly helpful
if you are studying in a busy or noisy location, such as a coffee shop or library. In
addition to helping, you focus; music can also improve your mood and reduce stress
levels. Listening to music that you enjoy can release dopamine, a neurotransmitter
that is associated with feelings of pleasure and happiness. This can help to reduce
feelings of anxiety or stress, which can often hinder your ability to concentrate and
retain information.
In conclusion, playing music while reviewing can be a great way to enhance your
studying experience, as long as you choose the right type of music and volume
level. Instrumental music with a slower tempo, such as classical or jazz, can be
particularly effective at improving focus and productivity, while also reducing
stress levels. It is important to experiment with different types of music to find what
works best for you, and to be mindful of the volume level to avoid creating additional
distractions. With the right music and mindset, you can transform your study sessions
into a more enjoyable and productive experience.
