TYPES OF CV AND THEIR USE :

1. FUNCTIONAL CV:

A Functional CV also known as skill-based CV works best for the freshers. Functional CV
puts more stress on skills rather than work experience of the candidate. So, the candidates
having little to no experience must use this format for their CV. In this type of CV,
candidates can mention the experiences gained through achievements and expertise in the
work field or education. Skills must be mentioned in decreasing order of importance and
skills that are irrelevant to certain job roles must be avoided. This format of CV is appropriate
for people looking for change in jobs. This type of CV convinces the employer to hire them
despite having different work experiences and skills. This is appropriate for people with
various skills and who frequently change jobs. This format also helps to hide the fact of age
in certain cases.

2. CREATIVE CV:

This format is basically used in creative field. It is the most popular form of the candidates
looking for creative jobs like marketing, social media, graphic designers and brand logos and
consulting. These candidates are highly skilled and creative people. It is used to grab
attention of the employer to the previous work of the candidates and for showcasing creative
skills. The employer can see the mentioned work skill and the links can be included of the
work done by the candidate.

3. CHRONOLOGICAL CV:

It is traditional form of CV, mostly suitable for job hunters. It is mostly preferred by job
hunters. This type of format resents educational qualifications and work experience in
chronological order i.e., arranged according to the dates. Recent information is always written
first and the rest of the information is in reverse chronological order. By adopting this format,
it makes it easier for the readers and the recent information can be read first. It also contains
certain personal aspects such as personal statement about the ambition, key skills, interests
and strength of the candidate. This format is used when the candidate has worked in same
industry for years and has stable progression throughout his career and is applying for the
promotion in other industries or the same industry. This is mainly used by people with no gap
in their career and education.
4. COMBINATION CV:

This type of CV is the combination of both chronological CV and Functional CV. This is
preferred format when the candidate is interested in making long CV. Skills, educational
qualifications, expertise and work experience is mentioned in this type of CV. This is
preferred when the candidate wants to make a career change. In this type of CV, Skills and
expertise is mentioned, and then it is followed by educational qualifications and work
experience. In this, attention of the employer must be grabbed since the beginning of the CV.
This is used when the candidate has relevant qualification as well as work experience. A
relevant skill can be focused on in this type of CV. It is usually used for executive and
managerial posts showcasing relevant skills and work experience for the post.

5. ACADEMIC CV:

It is mostly used when applying to Lectureship, post-graduation, research fellowship, and


doctoral degree. This format emphasis more on papers published, details of research, subjects
of research and details of the expertise undertaken. It must include grants received, awards,
fellowships, professional skills, teaching experience, and licenses relevant for the post which
the candidate is applying for. It should also include the interest of the candidate and the job
he wants to work on in the future.
