Only qualified workers should perform electrical work after obtaining a permit. A risk assessment and safe work procedure must be prepared. Proper personal protective equipment, clearance from energized equipment, illumination, and exits/evacuation routes are required. Workers should follow lockout/tagout procedures and never work on energized equipment.

Only competent and qualified worker/technician shall perform the work.
Permit to Work shall be obtained as a pre-requisite to perform the work. Risk assessment and safe work procedure shall be prepared prior start the work. All workers shall attend the toolbox meeting prior start the work. All walkways and stairs should be wide enough for personnel to navigate them safely, adequate railing should be provided, and floor openings should be closed or have guard rails. Enough clearance from energized parts should be provided to avoid accidental contact. There should be sufficient illumination for personnel to clearly see their surroundings and perform any work safely. Isolation and earthing works shall be done according to approved schematic drawings from client. Exits should be clearly marked and evacuation routes should be free from obstructions. All substation metallic structures, fences, and equipment tanks should be connected to a substation ground grid. Don't touch someone who's been electrocuted. Inspect & maintain your electrical tools. Follow proper lockout/tagout procedures. PPE shall be suitable to perform the work safely. Only fiber ladders are acceptable to be use inside substation. Always use insulated tools while working. Always use appropriate insulated rubber gloves and goggles while working on any branch circuit or any other electrical circuit. Never try repairing energized equipment. Always work on de-energized equipment. Prior to start any work in electrical equipment’s. you must check the voltage first by using a tester or multimeter. Never repair cuts with insulating tape. Use proper connectors to join cables. Take care while removing a capacitor from a circuit. A capacitor stores energy and if it’s not properly discharged when removed it can easily cause an electric shock.
