Formative Assessment:

1- Students will be asked to create a mind map of all the elements of art, using images and
words to indicate an understanding of these elements.

2- Students will be asked to answer questions based on the introduction to Picasso lesson
including: Thinking about portraits, observing portraits and understanding how the elements
of art affect Picasso's portraits. This develops skills and understanding required for the
summative assessment.

3- Students will be asked to create a series of sketches using Picasso templates or


constructing their own images from inspirational portraits. When creating these process
drawings, students must keep in mind the Key and related concepts as well as the global
context. (Identity, Composition, Narrative, Personal and Cultural expression)

4- Working independently, students will create a final artwork based on one of their most
successful Picasso inspired sketches. This should be A3 and coloured in using oil pastels.

5- Once the final work is completed, students will reflect on their final artwork and how the
Key Concept, Related Concepts and Global Context connects to their work. Also they will
need to be able to discuss how their work is connected to the way in which icasso may have
created his own artworks.

6- Students will conduct a peer review during class and discuss what they interpret from
each others artwork, giving one another positive feedback and constructive criticism.
