Unit Plan: Chicago Farmers Markets Reusable Bag Design

Course: Art 1
Unit Name:
Chicago Farmers Market Reusable Bag Design
Unit Description:
Students will engage in a 1.5 weeks unit in which they will create a 9x 11 design for the Chicago
Farmers Markets Reusable Bag Competition sponsored by Country Financial. Students will use a medium of their
choice to create a balanced composition that expresses the theme Grow Your Own Way and includes the text
Chicago Farmers Markets 2014. The unit follows Illinois State learning standards for high school students. In this
unit students will continue to gain experience using color theory and composition, learned in the previous unit, to
express ideas. They will gain an understanding for how text is incorporated into the overall design to reinforce
the desired message of the work. Students will understand how art is used everyday to influence and inform the
viewer. Selected students work will be submitted to the competition and will have a chance at winning a
$1000.00 scholarship and have their bag produced and available at Chicago farmers markets.
Length:
1.5 weeks
