Entrepreneurship Project

Prompt:
Write a 1000-1200 words critical examination of an article published in Harvard Business
Review, Stanford Social Innovation Review, Sloan Management Review or Rotman
Management from 2015 until now. The article that you choose has to discuss a particular aspect
of entrepreneurship from the course syllabus and you have to be able to develop a central thesis
noting your point of disagreement with the author, and the three supporting sub-points. In writing
your essay, you should use ideas from class (cited appropriately) and outside sources that allow
you to support your ideas.

Grading:
The essay is worth 10 points (i.e., 1 point from your final grade) and should be submitted by
15.05.2019 in a Word Document sent to catalina.chinie@fabiz.ase.ro. The essay will be checked
for plagiarism and any sentence that is not properly cited in the essay will lead to a grade of 0
points.
Points will be assigned as follows:
A. 2 points for proper structure:
Paragraph 1 – Introduce the main idea of your chosen article and your main point of
disagreement. Briefly introduce your three main sub-points.
Paragraph 2 – Provide the reader with a summary of the article (write just enough so that your
reader will get the gist of the article, remember that your focus should be on critiquing the
article).
Paragraph 3, 4, 5 – Introduce your three supporting sub-points. Make sure each paragraph begins
with a clear topic sentence and that your points of disagreement are specific (i.e., avoid arguing
that the author is “too vague”, “too general” or “my experience says otherwise”). You need to
make a point about entrepreneurship theory and practice and you need to use outside sources to
demonstrate that you are able to compare and contrast two different perspectives.
Paragraph 6 – Briefly present some alternative viewpoints – even though you are critiquing the
article, does it still hold some value?
Paragraph 7 – Concluding paragraph. Reiterate your main point and why you think it is
important.
B. 3 points for sub-points that make sense, are well-sourced and logically build to your
main point. I need to be able to tell what your sub-points are and how they relate to one another.
C. 2 points for writing style. Please try to be concise, avoid fluff (empty, unnecessary
words) and keep your sentences short enough to ensure readability.
D. 2 points for in-text references. These need to be placed appropriately in the text and
they should be able to support your three sub-points. Also, you need to use academic references
(i.e., articles from reputable webpages, Wikipedia not included, scientific articles or books). We
will discuss in class on how you can find the right sources for your essays.
E. 1 point for the reference list. You should have both in-text references and a reference
list at the end. Use APA format (https://aut.ac.nz.libguides.com/APA6th/referencelist). The page
with the references is not comprised in the 3-4 pages allocated for the essay.
