Selling Clubs

To Brighton High Administration, I have learned that clubs get funding for their activities

in many different ways. The district gives money to clubs to pay for regional and state

registration, the principal (congrats Mr. Sherwood we will miss you) has some funding they can

give to clubs for national registration. That only leaves The Winter Formal dance to fund all the

CTE clubs for other activities that will most likely be spent at these competitions. I have noticed

some clubs and even some sports get funding from other sources. EX: Drama gets funding from

tickets, Tennis gets funding from their summer camps, and The Brighton Business gets funding

from The Roar Store. It would be nice if more clubs were able to do fun activities related to

possible careers and the clubs themselves. I would love to see the Art History Club go to a

museum, or the journalist club and book club publish a book. It would be so cool if Bengals 4

Change did a big service project.

There are so many different clubs at Brighton. We are getting more every year. We can’t

just help them all at once, we are going to have to pick a few to start off. Conducting a survey I

asked the question. “Which clubs or sports need this kind of support”? Some of the answers

were, “Usually the larger ones, because they do a lot more. FCCLA goes out and does things

while origami club only needs paper. It just depends on the resources needed”, “smaller ones that
2

are lesser known or just starting”, and “Clubs that go on trips for competitions”. Another

question I asked was “What club or sport do you think won't need the support”? The answers

here were like. “D&D, students borrow or buy their own supplies” and “Many of the sports

teams seem to have adequate funding and established fundraising events”(Funding Programs).

This helped me limit the clubs we should do first. Upon interviewing Mr. Elzey, one of the

advisors for the Brighton Business club and CEO of the Roar Store. I asked him similar

questions, his response was “Any club that has competitions needs the help the most”. (Elzey).

With this knowledge I have picked FCCLA and Skills USA.

Now with the $1000 dollars used to fund this project we give each club $500 dollars for

the clubs to buy tools and supplies to create products and services to sell. Again from the

interview with Elzey he said “I would love to see clubs give us things to sell at the roar store and

all the profits made from those items will be given to those clubs” (Elzey). It is important to note

that The Brighton Business club will not need any extra funding, so they are happy to have

FCCLA and Skills USA keep 100% of the profits made form their products and services. Now

Skills USA and FCCLA will have a little extra funding, they are able to do more fun club related

activities, and they are also able to keep partnering with the Roar Store to continuously get more

funding.

This will be able to get us a step closer to help fund every club better at Brighton. With

all of these fun activities, students will more likely be willing to join these clubs. There will be

more involvement from the student body seeing them involved with more activities hosted by the

clubs at Brighton.
