I Fine… Thank You… Love You

The movie I Fine… Thank You… Love you from the title itself doesn't use correct grammar which
is disturbing for those who are having an obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD from correcting
each and every structure, even when it is being intended. Moving on from that, the movie itself
is amusing and entertaining from the short jokes, dirty jokes, from the main character’s
students and peers. The story of a girl named Pleng, who is an english tutor, starts her dilemma
of who is she going to help from the two strangers that only met because of sex.

The story started off from an English tutoring school and one of Pleng’s students asked to help
her break up with a man whom she just dated without understanding each other because of
her partner’s lack of information in speaking the English language. I laughed hysterically when
Kaya said that they only communicate through each other by the means of physical affection.
For me that’s a big red flag for a man who only wants something for himself but not love
something for who or what you are. Apart from that, the story proceeds with Pleng meeting
Yim who is Kaya’s soon to be ex-boyfriend teaching him english because Yim blames Pleng for
teaching Kaya english and leaving him for that.

After all the trouble, Pleng agrees to teach Yim English so that he can go overseas to America
and come back to Kaya’s life once again. Alas, it was still an outcome to be predicted easily as
Kaya decided to find another man residing in the United States. One scene in the movie made
me laugh out loud again when they were at the bookstore and Pleng was teaching Yim about a
book for a dolphin story when suddenly an American asked him for directions. Yim was asking
Pleng for help but she was having none of it, another American came who is supposedly the
first American’s companion and another came again reassuring them if they got the directions
and Yim just left because he couldn’t understand anything from what they were saying.
In conclusion, there were a lot of skits to mention and all of them were comical in a sense when
you understood each and every thing they were saying. From the start of the movie it was
expected that Pleng would fall in love with Yim as she proceeded from teaching him and
helping him achieve his goals to take back Kaya but realizing he too loved Pleng in the process
of helping him take back Kaya. It was entertaining overall as it was educational at the best,
everything was set to be a romantic-comedy from the start of their conversation through their
tutoring sessions and so-called dates. The writer clearly makes use of explicit and implicit
metaphors to catch the audience off-guard. In the tutoring school one of Pleng’s best students,
Pruek, made use of an explicit metaphor through a one minute impromptu speech about a
mole, and soon connected it to love giving a hint that he’s madly in love with Pleng. Another
use of similar interpretations is when Yim reads the classic fairytale Cinderella and reads it with
a poor accent and connects it to when Pleng got to Pruek’s massive mansion with the twist of
the glass slippers to a smartphone but him giving and catching up to Pleng. The best part in the
movie is that when they were in a party with all guests speaking English, Yim showed off what
he had learned from the lessons and translated the English song Walk Me Home with a
romantic meaning, showing the true colors of what Pleng and Yim mutually feel for each other.
