Almost Maine

By John Cariani

This is a compilation of different love stories with a mix of metaphorical figures expressed in
a form of experiences involving love and pain themes within them that the characters have
between each other, this last part in some scenes, not all of them have metaphors. But
overall, it’s a compilation of love stories narrated in a comedic way that can have the reader
relating to this type of experiences that the characters go through. My favorite chapter was
“Getting It Back” between Gayle and Lendall because at the beginning of it she was ending
the relationship with him and telling him that he was supposed to ask her to marry him long
ago since they have a long time together. And so this conversation develops and then out of
the blue by the end of the scene, he proposes to her and all of a sudden everything’s okay
now and she says yes. It was just funny to read. I like all the kissing and hugging throughout
the whole play. I hope this is a play that is still being presented in stages because I believe
people really like to see love stories and not only seeing them but experiencing them.
Everybody loves love.
