THESIS PROPOSAL

1.1 INTRODUCTION

Language is a means of communication that is used to transfer information, ideas, and feelings from one person
to another. Language is also a system of communication based upon words and the combination of words into
sentences. By using language, people can develop their knowledge and know about something. Language is a
structured system of communication that consists of grammar and vocabulary. It is the primary means by which
humans convey meaning, both in spoken and written forms, and may also be conveyed through sign languages.
Language is one of the most important parts of any culture. It is the way by which people communicate with
one another, build relationships, and create a sense of community.

1.2 HISTORY AND UNDERSTANDING OF LANGUAGE

Some scholars assume the development of primitive language-like systems (proto-language) as early as
Homo habilis, while others place the development of symbolic communication only with Homo erectus (1.8
million years ago) or with Homo heidelbergensis (0.6 million years ago) and the development of language
proper with Speaking, writing and reading are integral to everyday life, where language is the primary tool for
expression and communication. Studying how people use language – what words and phrases they
unconsciously choose and combine – can help us better understand ourselves and why we behave the way we
do.
