■ 2023 mark the 30th anniversary of world press freedom day.

■ It is celebrated every 3rd of may.
■ This day is an oppurtunity to:
Celebrate the fundamental priciples of press freedom.
Asses the state of press freedom through out the world.
Defend the media from attacks.
And pay tribute to journalists who have lost thier lives In the line of duty.
■ It is also a day of reflection Among media professionals About issues of Press
freedom and profesional ethics.
■ World press freedom day was proclaimed by UN Genral on december
1993,following the recommendation of UNISCO’s general conference.

■ Since then,3th may the anniversary of the declaration of windhoek is celebrated as

world press freedom day.
■ Significantly the right to freedom of expression of expression,in article 19 of the
uniVersal declaration of human rights, is a prerequisite and a driver to the
enjoyment of all other human rights.
■ Three decades have passed since it was proclaimed in 1993,in which we have seen
substantial progress towards achieving a free press and a freedom of expression
around the world.
■ The proliferation of independent media in many countries and the rise of digital
technologies have enabled the free flow of information.
■ However the media freedom safety of journalists and freedom of expression are
Increasingly underattack,which impacts the fullfillment of other human rights.
