NSTP Orientation and Blood Donation Information Drive

NSTP or The National Service Training Program is a government-mandated citizenship

course required for all Filipino college students. It is adynamic service that enhances the skills
and the capabilities of the youth. In pursuit to this program are the vision, mission, and goals
that guides the students and empowers them to be motivated, trained, organized and mobilized
in military training, literacy, civic welfare, and other similar endeavors in the service of the
nation.

From the webinar, NSTP orientation and information about the blood donation drive
have been discussed. Before being able to donate blood, the student or person must be
qualified through a series of assessment. A person with symptoms of HIV infection is not eligible
to donate. Other qualifications also include age (must be 16 years old at least), weight (at least
110 pounds or 50 kilograms), diet, and general good health. This set of qualifications does not
only ensure the safety of the recipient but the donor as well. There are also to-dos before and
after the blood donation.

The National Blood Services Act of 1994 is beneficial especially to those people who
need them. The blood transfusion is a professional medical service and not a sale of
commodity. This involves adequate, safe, and equitable distribution. Blood is essential to help
patients survive surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. This
lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation. The need for blood is
constant as safe blood saves lives.
