1. When are the Rolle’s Theorem and the Mean Value Theorem equivalent?
Rolle’s Theorem and Mean Value Theorem are the same. Wherein, both theorems state
that at some point the slope of tangent is the same as slope of the secant connecting the
points (a, f(a)) and (b, f(b)).
2. Why do need continuity and differentiability to apply the Mean Value Theorem? Find a
counter example.
We need continuity and differentiability to apply the Mean Value Theorem because we will
know if there exists a number c in (a,b). A counterexample of it is f ( x )=| x|+ 3 ,−2 ≤ x ≤2.
3. What is the significance of the Mean Value Theorem?
One of the most helpful techniques in both differential and integral calculus is the mean
value theorem. It aids in our understanding of the identical behavior of several functions and
has significant implications for differential calculus.
