YEAR & SECTION: BS Biology

ACTIVITY: Go to your garden and list down its different components that work for it to survive
and function as a system. Complete the table provided below.

COMPONENT SOURCE
1. SUNLIGHT Radiant Energy from the sun by the process of nuclear fusion
2. SOIL Organic Compounds from plant, other organisms, & waste
products
3. RAINWATER Solar Energy when water evaporates, & gains potential energy
when water precipitates
4. PAPAYA TREE Radiant Energy from sunlight, Water/Rainwater, Soil
Nutrients, CO2 from Air
5. BUTTERFLIES Food Energy from drinking the nectars from flowers
6. ROCKS/SEDIMENTS Heat Energy from sun, earth’s core, or volcanic magma
7. EARTHWORMS Food Energy from decaying organic matter or dead organisms
8. RED LEAF Radiant Energy from sunlight, Water/Rainwater, Soil
(EUGENIA) Nutrients, CO2 from Air
9. ANTS Food Energy from plants, fruits, vegetable, dead organisms,
sugar from plants, and more
10. CALAMANSI TREE Radiant Energy from sunlight, Water/Rainwater, Soil
Nutrients, CO2 from Air

Nutrients, CO2 from Air
12. DUMSTICK TREE Radiant Energy from sunlight, Water/Rainwater, Soil
Nutrients, CO2 from Air
13. BEETLES Food Energy from Plant leaves or seed, some in small animals
14. SNAIL Food energy from Detritus or dead particle organic material
15. MILLIPEDES Food energy from Detritus or dead particle organic material
16. MUSHROOM Food energy from Decaying Organic Matter even on Dungs
17. GRASSES Radiant Energy from sunlight, Water/Rainwater, Soil
Nutrients, CO2 from Air
18. WIND Solar Energy from the sun generates wind or air
19. COCONUT TREE Radiant Energy from sunlight, Water/Rainwater, Soil
Nutrients, CO2 from Air
20. BOUGAINVILLEA Radiant Energy from sunlight, Water/Rainwater, Soil
Nutrients, CO2 from Air
21. OREGANO Radiant Energy from sunlight, Water/Rainwater, Soil
Nutrients, CO2 from Air
22. LEAF LITTERS Decaying leaves falling from plant organisms by wind
23. DEAD WOODS Decaying woods falling form plant organisms by wind
24. BEES Food Energy from drinking the nectars from flowers
25. COAL RESIDUES Helps soil’s ability to hold plant nutrients and beneficial soil
microbes
ANALYSIS: From the activity above. Group Each component to energy source, nutrient source,
plant community, animal community, community of decomposers, storage for nutrients, and
storage for organic materials. Use a separate paper for your table and attach in this page. Below
is an example of table.

GROUP FUNCTION
Energy Source
1.) SUNLIGHT Sunlight is absorbed and converted into usable forms of energy
via photosynthesis
2.) WIND Cycling Carbon Dioxide, Oxygen, and other gases in the air
3.) RAINWATER Frees nutrients and minerals in the soil for plant community
Nutrient Source
1.) SOIL Nutrient Storage for Plant community for their growth
2.) COAL RESIDUES Enable For Nutrient Source to hold on nutrients and beneficial
microbes for growth and development
Plant Community
1.) PAPAYA TREE Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration, and provide
edible fruit for nutrients
2.) RED LEAF Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration
3.) CALAMANSI TREE Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration, and provide
edible fruit for nutrients
4.) LEMONGRASSES Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration, and provide
edible plant leaves for nutrients
5.) DUMSTICK TREE Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration, and provide
edible plant leaves for nutrients
6.) GRASSES Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration
7.) COCONUT TREE Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration, and provide
edible fruit for nutrients
8.) BOUGAINVILLEA Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration
9.) OREGANO Gives Oxygen in the ecosystem for respiration, and provide
edible plant leaves for nutrients
Animal Community
1.) BUTTERFLIES Helps Plants in Pollination, providing plant community to
produce new seeds
2.) ANTS Helps aerate the soil, allowing water and oxygen reach to plant
roots. Might considered decomposer
3.) BEES Helps Plants in Pollination, providing plant community to
produce new seeds
Community of Decomposers
1.) MUSHROOMS Helps Decomposing dead woods and leafy material including
fleshy growth on trees
2.) EARTHWORMS Improving Soil Structures and recycling organic material
3.) MILLIPEDES Decomposing vegetation and cycling nutrients back into the
soil.
4.) SNAIL Helps recycling nutrients back into the soil from feeding on
dead rotting vegetation like moist leaf litter, and also fungi and
sometimes eat soil directly.
5.) BEETLES Helps recycling nutrients back into the soil from feeding on
dead animals and fallen trees

APPLICATION: Create an ecosystem model of your garden using energy language symbols and
give a detailed explanation. It is advised to use a separate bond paper/s.
