ACTIVITY # 3
Direction; Define the ff.
1. Lateral Pocket Loop- The type in which the direction of the flow of ridges of the two
loops are on the same side.
2. Loop Counting- It is the method of counting in the loops beginning from the core to
the delta.
3. Arch- The ridges nun from one side to the other of the pattern, making no backward
turn. There is ordinarily no delta, but where there is the appearance of a delta, no
recurving ridge must intervene between the core and delta points.
4. Ulnar Loop- The direction of the flow of the majority of the ridges is towards the little
finger's side or to the ulna bone.
5. Meet Whorl- The type in which the traced ridge goes directly to the right delta, or
goes above, in front, below or outside the right delta. There are less than three
intervening ridges.
6. Tented Arch- A pattern in which the ridges flow from one side to the other without
recurving, but differ from plain arch, as the ridges rise higher in the center, giving the
pattern the appearance of a tent.
7. Accidental- A pattern made up of the combination of two or more like or unlike
patterns with the exclusion of the plain arch.
8. Ridge Tracing- The process of tracing the ridge that emanates from the lower side of
the left delta toward the right delta to see where it flows in relation to the right delta. The
boundaries for ridge tracing are the two deltas in whorl type patterns.
9. Central Pocket Loop- It is consists of at least one recurving ridge, or an obstruction
at right angles to the line of flow, with two deltas, between which when an imaginary line
is drawn, no recurving ridge within the pattern area is cut or touched.
10. Plain Whorl- It has two deltas and at least one ridge making a complete circuit,
which may be spiral, oval, circular or any variant of a circle.
11. Relative Point-
12. Loop- A pattern in which one or more ridges enter on one side of the impression
and, by making a recurve, pass out or terminate on the same side where the ridge or
ridges enter.
13. Double Loop Whorl- A double loop whorl consists of two separate and distinct loop
formations with two separate and distinct shoulders and two deltas.
14. Incipient Ridge- The unusual type of ridges found in small percentage of pattern:
short, narrow, and badly formed ridges found between two well-formed and full bodied
ridges.
15. Double Loop- It consist of two separate loop formations, with the separate and
distinct set of shoulders and two deltas.
16. Inner Whorl- It is the type in the ridge traced reaches the relative point nearest the
at the right delta and goes above or in front of it. There are three or more ridges
intervening between such ridge and the right delta.
17. Plain Arch- A pattern in which the ridges flow from one side to the other side,
without recurving, usually having a slight upward curve on the center, making the
pattern appear like an arch. There is no core and delta in the pattern.
18. Whorl- A type of pattern in which at least two deltas are present with recurve in front
of each.
19. Ridge Counting- The enumeration of the number of ridge characters touching or
passing the line of count (imaginary line), which is drawn between the core and delta
excluding the two termini in the count.
20. Twinned Loop- Is the one in which the direction of the flow of the ridges of two
separate loop formation is opposite each other.
21. Outer Whorl- It is the type in which the traced ridge is below or outside the right
delta and there are three or more intervening ridges between the traced ridge and the
right delta.
22. Radial Loop- The direction of the flow of ridges is towards the thumb side or thee
radius bone.
