Should smartphones be allowed in school?

Nowadays, there is no denying that technology has advanced, and smartphones has
become essential gadgets in out lives. According to a survey, nearly 90% of teenagers has
owned smartphones. Smartphones are used as computers and have made communication easy.
The current education system has encouraged students to use smartphones in class for
effective learning. Generally, schools as learning institutions cannot avoid adopting advanced
technology for effective learning process. Thus, smartphones should be allowed in school.
Firstly, smartphones potentially boost learning experience in class. Jelterow Mckinnie
Jr., an educator points out that the use of smartphones in school has the potential to provide a
better learning experience to students. For example, the use of smartphones enables students
to access information concerning their classwork immediately. Besides, teachers can easily
share learning materials in E-classroom and students can access it from their smartphones
instantly anytime. Moreover, students can use their smartphones to record lectures and take
photos of power points. It can help students when they want to revisit the information. Thus, it
is absolutely that smartphones in school can provide better learning experience in class.
Secondly, smartphones can improve communication between students and teachers.
For instances, students can use smartphones to engage in peer-to-peer group discussion held in
social networks. Those students who are shy can make use of these group social network
forums to anonymously ask questions to class. Additionally, teachers can create a discussion
group to send assignments to students anytime. Once students have questions, they can text
messages to teachers immediately while they are at home. The most important is that
smartphones help the communication between teachers and those students with psychological
and emotional problems. Problem students can call or text their teachers for help once they
encounter difficulties and problems. Hence, it is definitely that smartphones can improve
communication between students and teachers.
Thirdly, smartphones can increase a sense of safety, especially during the emergency
cases. Students in the school sometimes go to school and back home personally or through the
public transportation. They could face the transportation issue or other emergency problems.
In such an emergency situation, students need smartphones to contact polices and parents for
immediate help. Moreover, it is especially useful when students have medical emergency, they
need to contact with their parents directly because of contacting parents mediated by school
sometimes takes time. Furthermore, students sometimes stay at school after school hours for
group study, extracurricular activity and extra tutorial class. The smartphones can help them to
inform their parents about their plans at once. Therefore, the use of smartphones can enhance
a sense of safety from students.
In conclusion, the smartphone is basically a need of today’s world. Above mentioned all
arguments shows the importance of smartphone for students, including boosting learning
experience in class, improve communication between students and teachers and increasing a
sense of safety from students. Thus, smartphones should be allowed in schools.
