Here is the sequence:

GROUP 3 members will critique the Academic Essay of GROUP 4; and
GROUP 4 members will critique the Academic Essay of GROUP 1.

After accomplishing the DRAFT, write a CRITIQUE PAPER following the STANDARD METHOD:

Issues/Problems:
The proponents have highlighted issues such as the effects
of the Covid-19 pandemic on education and various
issues affecting both students and teachers, such as
connectivity, equipment, learning environment, student-
teacher communication, and, finally, each student's ability
to understand their lesson on their own.
Goals:
This essay was proposed by the group with the goal of
reopening schools due to the fact that online classes have
become a barrier to learning. Online learning has a clear
goal: to provide all students with access to high-quality
educational opportunities. It contributes to the reduction
of the transmission of coronavirus disease, the
improvement of the quality of education, as well as the
efficiency and productivity of learners, and the provision
of a more convenient, accessible, and flexible manner of
learning for both students and instructors. They stated that
online programs are beneficial in that they allow students
to continue learning despite the pandemic, but also, they

interconnected. The COVID-19 epidemic has
crossed national borders and is still spreading. It has
impacted people of all nationalities, educational
levels, income levels, and genders. However, the
same cannot be said for the repercussions, which

a. Traditional education is another term for classroom

learning. Learning is the process of gaining new
information, abilities, habits, and preferences.
However, the Philippines just experienced a massive
revamp of its education system, and concerns with
Philippine education have increased as a result of
the COVID-19 pandemic. The Department of
Education (DepEd) has adopted distance learning
modalities as well as blended learning programs to
solve them. Online classes, handouts, and lessons
via television and social media platforms are all
examples. Despite the fact that many students and
professors prefer face-to-face sessions, they must
adjust to online education as an alternate mode of
instruction. As long as schools are close together,
online education will continue. Some of these new
learning tools, however, require internet
connectivity.

Main Point 4: The advantages of online learning.

quality as a work of literary art. A formalist critic looks at the
overall form of the work, as well as the form of individual
parts of the text, such as the characters, settings, tone, point
of view, and any other aspects that come together to form
a single text.
Overall Assessment:
The creator’s goal and objective was significantly
accomplished. They cooperatively include every
necessary detail and key points about their topic. The
creators came up with an informative essay and they are
able to highlight texts according its purpose. The paper is
recommended to be read in view of the fact that the
COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected different areas,
sector and aspects of our lives. Particularly the economy
and in terms of education, students and educators have
sacrificed time and effort for the new mode of learning.
With the academic essay, students may start to wonder
what really pushed them to study well. Parents will think of
the more convenient one. And educators will effectively
know what the public needs.
The first main point is about impact of COVID-19 on the
Philippine educational system. In this topic, it includes the
problems we are experiencing during the pandemic. It
stated how this virus affected people in different countries.
Next is the distinction between traditional and online
education. In this topic it is only all about the new normal
when it talks about study. We have this online classes for
the safety of students. The third and fourth topic are both
connected to online learning. Since the pandemic started
we have been worried especially in our studies. Because
of this, the DEPED implemented different ways on how to
continue the learning of students, and online class is one
way. Not all students agreed on it, but they have no
choice but to continue their studies online. In this case,
there are different advantages of online learning. We can
now learn and study different lesson without going to

However, it also have disadvantages. Especially for those
students who does not have learning resources like
smartphone, laptop or tablet. It will be hard for them to
learn in this new normal, they cannot access different
online materials because of the lack of resources. Lastly
and the most problematic one we will encounter is its
emotional impact. Because they might feel depressed
and anxious when they encounter problems while learning
online.
As we can see their work is nicely done and we don’t see
any problem in their critique paper. But we will still
recommend some ways how could they have written a
better critique paper. Always take notes on the most
important aspects of the task. Think about how your work
relates to a larger topic or context. Develop a
comprehension of the work's core argument or aim.
Conclude your article critique with a conclusion that
summarizes the article's key arguments as well as the key
points from your own analysis. Finish with a statement on
the research's importance or a call for more research in
the field.

Critical Approach/es Used:

Introductory:
In the academic essay, “The New Mode of Learning.”, created on
March 12, 2022, Group 3 presented several reasons why online class is
considered the new way of learning. The proponents have highlighted issues
such as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on education and various
issues affecting both students and teachers, such as connectivity, equipment,
learning environment, student-teacher communication, and, finally, each
student's ability to understand their lesson on their own. On the first main point,
they used different figures of speech, as well as simple and understandable
words to make sure that the people who are to read it can understand the
text easily. For the second main point, they used comparison and contrast to
highlight the distinction between the traditional, and the new mode of
learning. On the third, however, they started focusing more on the online
mode of learning, and neglecting the other mentioned methods such as
modular, and self-learning. There could be some parts that needed
improvements on its word choice as well. More of the strengths and errors of
the academic essay will be further discussed in this critique paper.
Body:
The academic essay started out with presenting the readers with a
strong point. In a concise and coherent paragraph, the authors managed to
provide a preview to the topic: what are the new modes of learning and why
do we need to talk about them. Although one thing worth pointing out is that
their first sentence looks more like a thesis statement than their actual one.
Onto the next point, they highlighted the distinction between the traditional
and online education. The terms were well defined using formal language
and extended definitions, making sure that the readers understand the
subject of the essay. The comparison and contrast were entirely objective and
unbiased on both points. The third main topic talked about the evolution of

the Philippine educational system from classroom to online learning. The first
noticeable thing about this part is their use of exact dates to establish a
timeline. The chronological manner in which the paragraph was written
helped demonstrate the context better. It gives the reader a walkthrough on
the events of the year 2020 that led to the essay’s subject—the new modes of
learning. The number of citations made the essay seem more objective,
signifying that the writers have done their research well. Although, this part
could still use some improvements on its word choice. Firstly, the writers should
have used acronyms instead of full names after defining it once. For example,
when they used “Department of Health (DOH)” on one sentence, they should
have just used DOH on the other sentence instead of repeating the full name.
This happened on the names “Department of Education (DepEd)”, and “2019
novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV)” as well. Second, a case of redundancy can
also be noted on the use of the words “implementations implemented” on the
paragraph’s fourth sentence. Lastly, the use of the phrase “it appears to be”
on the final sentence of the same paragraph seems incorrect. The said phrase
is to be used when stating a vague or unconfirmed information, and not when
declaring facts. The last two main points of the academic essay talk about the
pros and cons of online learning. The information given was objective, and the
strengths and weaknesses of online classes were addressed well. The authors
made sure to look thoroughly into the different perspectives of students with
different backgrounds. There was a noticeable typographical error saying
“COVID-29” instead of “COVID-19”, but other than that, the word choice and
sentence construction were good. Although in the next paragraph, the point
they have established contrasts the statement they presented on the
introduction. To quote their words, “Hitherto, COVID-19 is still a threat to
human health, and blended learning is still the course of action that will take
place—temporarily replacing the traditional face-to-face learning”.
Meanwhile on the second to the last paragraph, the authors talked about
how some students have already started the limited face-to-face classes on
selected schools. On the fourth sentence of the paragraph, the word
“twenty” was unnecessarily capitalized and they left out the noun (twenty
private what?). In terms of their conclusion, the summary of points was well
written, there was a suggestion regarding the problem, and the final sentence
provided an impactful closing to the essay. However, it was slightly implausible
how they claimed that online classes were “unquestionably acceptable”

despite themselves presenting quite several cons regarding the topic. The
authors themselves have also declared in the first sentence of the essay that
COVID-19 “produces tons of adverse effects on students that cause significant
interruptions in students’ learning”. The inconsistency of their stance regarding
the topic is quite an issue.
Conclusion:
Despite the errors and inconsistencies of the essay, the creator’s goal
and objective was significantly accomplished. They cooperatively included
every necessary detail and key points about their topic. The creators came up
with an informative essay and they were able to highlight texts according to
its purpose. The paper is recommended to be read in view of the fact that the
COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected different areas, sector and aspects
of our lives. The Department of Education has implemented different ways on
how to continue the learning of students, and online class is only one of the
proposed ways. We can now learn and study different lessons without
physically going to school. However, it also has disadvantages for those
students who do not have learning resources like smartphone, laptop or
