If you are fully unemployed your first payment will be in GLENAMADDY P O CASTLEREA on 09/05/2023 and
every Tuesday after that.
Arrears, if any due, not included in your first payment will issue to you shortly.
If you work part-time and are paid into a financial institution your payment will be lodged into your account
on Tuesday each week (Wednesday after Bank Holiday weekends).
If you work part-time and are paid by cheque your payment will be issued on Monday each week (Tuesday
after Bank Holiday weekends).
As you have opted for Optional Jobseeker’s Allowance, it is important for you to know that as your primary
entitlement is Jobseeker’s Benefit the days you receive payment for Optional Jobseeker’s Allowance will be
counted as part of your entitlement to Jobseeker’s Benefit. As you are entitled to receive Jobseeker’s
Benefit for 234 days, once the total of paid days on Optional JA reaches this you will require 13 PRSI
contributions from paid employment to requalify for JB. This is provided for under Section 67(8) for
Jobseeker’s Benefit of Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 2005, as amended
OR
If you are in part-time employment you are required to send in a docket each week advising the
office of the days you were employed and unemployed. The dockets will issue to you in batches of
four, you must return the appropriate one each week, completed by you and signed by your
employer.

1. Self-Employed Customers
From 1 January 2007, self-employed customers may have to pay a Class S PRSI contribution on income
from self-employment. If you are self-employed, and not already registered, please contact your tax office.
If you have been advised by Revenue, that you do not have to pay PRSI, you may become a voluntary
contributor if you meet certain conditions. Voluntary contributions allow you to remain insured if you leave
the PRSI system and these contributions may help you get a pension in the future.
5. Means Test
Jobseeker’s Allowance is a means-tested payment. The rate of your payment depends on you and your
spouse/civil partner/cohabitant’s income, earnings and savings. Your weekly rate may vary depending on
the number of days worked. The following are the main items that count as means:
cash income which you or your spouse/civil partner/cohabitant have, including income from
occupational pensions or benefits and pensions from another country
savings in Banks, Building Societies, Post Office, Credit Unions and similar financial institutions,
cash in hand
investments, shares, property or land (but not your home)
maintenance paid to you if you are separated
credit/debit cards (including pre-paid cards)
If means are assessed against you, you will receive a separate form explaining how they have been
calculated.
7. Holidays
You may take up to 2 weeks paid holidays in a calendar year. You must tell us before you go.
12. Overpayments
If you were overpaid on a Social Welfare scheme in the past, we may make deductions from your weekly
payment to recover the overpayment. Your Intreo Centre/Branch Office will contact you in this regard.
13. Taxation
Your Jobseekers Allowance payment, including increases for dependent adults or children and other
Allowances paid with your payment, is fully exempt from income tax, PRSI and USC.
You must notify your Intreo Centre/Branch Office immediately if there are any changes in your
circumstances including:
If you find work (paid or unpaid), regardless of its duration
If you change your address
If your spouse/civil partner/cohabitant or child no longer resides with you
If a dependant dies
If you are no longer capable of or are no longer available for or looking for work
If your spouse/civil partner/cohabitant starts working, receives an increase in earnings, stops
working, or applies for a Social Welfare payment in their own right
If you commence a course of education, ETB training course, or any other Government sponsored
training/work programme
