Chapter 1
Introduction

1.1 Introduction
The first chapter must include:

 Introduction: motivation of the work. It means; what the work is about, why
this question is addressed, and why it is important.
 Goals: what the work aims (the main goal and some sub goals).
 Methodology: what methodology/strategy/approach is used in the work to
achieve the goals previously presented (what it is done to achieve the goals or
what it is the strategy to answer the questions addressed)
 Structure: brief summary of the structure of the work presenting all the chapters
to make easy the reading of the work.

Bachelor Thesis Advices

2.1 Advices
 The most important thing in the writing process is to find the general
STRUCTURE of the Bachelor Thesis. It is advised to consult supervisor before
starting to write.
 The structure usually is: introduction, chapter(s) that introduces the question to
be addressed (current benchmark and trends), presentation of the question or
problem to be addressed, description of the work and contributions (including its
assessment), conclusions (and future research), references and appendixes.
 Introduction and conclusions are the last sections written. In conclusions it is
important to emphasize the results and argue why the work deserves a good
grade.
 The style must be formal and rigorous. Avoid categorical statements unless they
can be well-founded or they are public knowledge. Avoid colloquial sentences
and personalize elements (example “while the algorithm thinks ...”)

8
 References. Cite all the references. It is especially important in the introduction
and the first chapters in which the student is based on previous works. If
references are not cited, the work lost value because it seems to indicate that the
student says something that sound familiar and the work is not much rigorous.
Mind how the references are cited.
 Keep the driving thread in the chapters and the sections (why you explain one
thing before and other after). No write paragraphs or sections that are not related
with the previous one. To link the driving thread between chapters, you can use
the conclusions o the introduction of the chapters. At the begging of each
chapter (in its introduction), it is advised to indicate its structure.
 All figures and tables have to look worked and correct. The terms (labels and
titles) have to be in the same language that the work. Figures and Tables have to
be enumerated and entitled in order to be well-referenced in the text. It is
optional to include a table of content with the figures and tables at the beginning
of the work. If the figures or tables (or its information) come from some
source(s), It is important to indicate the source in the subtitle.
 In some works, It could be necessary to include at the end a glossary or an
Appendix (it is optional).

2.3 How to cite

2.3.1 Citation in the text

It is advised to cite or reference using the documentation systems “Harvard

referencing”. In this citation style partial citations are enclosed within parentheses and
embedded in the text, either within or after a sentence. The citation is placed in
parentheses after the sentence or part thereof that the citation supports, and includes the
author's surname, year of publication (and, optionally, a page number where
appropriate). If the author is directly cited in the sentence, the author's surname is
omitted in the parentheses. Example:
 The comercial capital is the first form that comes before the industrial
development (Marx, 1867).
 According to Marx (1867), the comercial capital is the first form that comes
before the industrial development.

The list of all complete citations is provided in alphabetical order in a section following
the text, usually designated as "References”. Example of complete citation:

Produktionsprocess des Kapitals. Hamburg: Meissner. OCLC 7423266.

References

Complete citations are provided in alphabetical order in a section following the text
(before the Appendixis). There are different styles to present complete citations. The
student can chose, but the style must be homogeneous for all citations.
