In Chapter 9 of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion continue their journey to
the Emerald City. As they walk through a dense forest, they hear cries from a group of mice who are being chased by a
wildcat. The Tin Woodman manages to kill the wildcat with his axe, and in gratitude, the Queen of the Field Mice offers to
assemble a group of mice to help the group cross a deadly field of poppies. The Scarecrow and Tin Woodman then fasten
the mice to a makeshift truck and use them to safely transport the group across the field.
In Chapter 10, the group finally reaches the gates of the Emerald City, where they encounter the Guardian of the Gate. The
Guardian informs them that they must each wear special green spectacles to enter the city. The group is then led into the
city, greeted by the sight of beautiful buildings and gardens. They are taken to meet the Wizard of Oz, who agrees to help
them on their respective quests if they first complete a task for him: they must bring him the broomstick of the Wicked
Witch of the West. The group sets off on their new mission, determined to succeed and earn the Wizard's help.
Overall, Chapters 9 and 10 mark an essential turning point in the story, as the group finally reaches their destination and
meets the Wizard who may be able to help them achieve their goals. The events in these chapters also highlight the theme
of the importance of helping others, as the Queen of the Field Mice and her subjects assist the group in their journey.
