1. Count the perimeter of the figure by calculate the total number of the side of the small
squares.

Total number of the side = 40


Each side is 2cm

The perimeter of the figure is 40 x 2 = 80cm

Answer is 80

2. Use reverse method to find out the number in Hui En’s mind. The point of reverse
method is that multiplication becomes division and addition becomes subtraction.

( ) x 7 or 8 + 7 or 8 - 7 or 8 = 106

106 + 7 = 113

105 ÷ 7 = 15

3. There are 4 seats for the remaining 4 friends.

the length of the square is 4cm.

the length of the rectangular is 64 ÷ 4 = 16cm.

The length of P = 16 + 4 = 20cm

8. To find out the keys for 12 locks, first attempts are 11 times, second attempts are 10

When there are two remaining locks, just have to try once. Hence,

9. Divide 2202 minutes by 60 (1 hour is 60 minutes) = 36 hours 42 minutes


After add 36 hours 42 minutes into 22:02, the time is 58 hours 44 minutes
Hence, 58 hours 44 minutes - 48 hours = 10 hours 44 minutes

10. The circumference of the pool is 290 meters.


The distance between two flower = 290 ÷ 58 = 5 meters

Let box J represent the number of books Jay has.

Then Sherry’s collection is represented by a stack of five boxes, Nairan’s collection by a stack
of three boxes, and Sherry has two more boxes than Nairan.

But since we are told that Sherry has 16 more books than Nairan, the two extra boxes represent
16 books, and each book represents 8 books.

Jay has 8 books.

18. Suppose Mia makes her purchase 3 times. Then each person buys the same number of skirts
and we can compare the amounts spent on hats:
Mia’s 3 purchases: 3 skirts and 15 hats cost $69.
Liz’s 1 purchase: 3 skirts and 2 hats cost $30.
Compare these purchases: Mia buys 13 more hats than Liz for an extra $39. Therefore, 1
hat costs $3. Then Liz bought 2 hats for $6 and had $24 left for 3 skirts. Thus, each skirt
costs $8.
Answer: The price of each skirt sold in dollars is 8.

19. Each region represents the members of that category. Region V represents those who like
Vanilla only; C = Chocolate only; B = both flavors; N = neither flavor.

Region N has 3 students, therefore V  C  B has 26  3  23 students. But circle C  B is


given as 16 (all the Chocolate lovers), thus V alone must have 23  16  7 students (Vanilla
only). Since V  B is given as 15 (all the Vanilla lovers), B must have 15  7  8 students. 8

Therefore, Vincy is two months older than Winson. Henry is 4 months older than Vincy, thus
Henry is 6 months older than Winson.

Answer: Henry is 6 months older than Winson.

21. Mike ends with twice as many cards as Paul. In order to have started with equal amounts,
Paul must have given Mike half the difference in their amounts. Since that half is 12, the
full difference must be 24. Thus, Mike ends with 24 more cards than Paul. This is twice as
many cards, hence Paul ends with 24 cards. Therefore, Mike ends with 48, and each starts
with 36 cards.

Answer: The number of cards did Paul have at the start is 36.

8 Suppose Mia makes her purchase 3 times. Then each person buys the same number of
skirts and we can compare the amounts spent on hats:

Mia’s 3 purchases: 3 skirts and 15 hats cost $69.


Liz’s 1 purchase: 3 skirts and 2 hats cost $30.

Compare these purchases: Mia buys 13 more hats than Liz for an extra $39. Therefore,
1 hat costs $3. Then Liz bought 2 hats for $6 and had $24 left for 3 skirts. Thus, each
skirt costs $8.

Answer: The price of each skirt sold in dollars is 8.

9 Each region represents the members of that category. Region V represents those who
like Vanilla only; C = Chocolate only; B = both flavors; N = neither flavor.

Region N has 3 students, therefore V  C  B has 26  3  23 students. But circle


C  B is given as 16 (all the Chocolate lovers), thus V alone must have 23  16  7
students (Vanilla only). Since V  B is given as 15 (all the Vanilla lovers), B must have
