Module 2 Pre Task

Think of 5 good practices that you should do in your refrigerator at home. Reflect on the habits that
you wish to change after knowing what should be done.

1. Don't stuff the fridge too much.


I didn’t know there was a need to have some air circulating around the items in the fridge.
Usually, if there is a space in the fridge, we can just put anything on it just to avoid wasting
energy. However, this just makes the motor work too hard temperature making it harder to
keep the fridge cool, which could lead to a possible failure of the motor or condenser.
2. Stop opening the door so much.
I always have this habit to stand at our fridge when I’m hungry, searching for food that will
cure my cravings. When letting the cold air out and the warm air in, your refrigerator's
compressor has to drive the warm air out and bring the temperature back to normal,
elevating your monthly energy bill. So I should resist the habit and get what I came for and
shut the door quickly.
3. Check the door seals.

I don’t usually check if the door seals. A loose seal on the fridge door allows cool air to seep
out, wasting energy and causing our fridge to work harder than it needs to. We should clean
them regularly using a toothbrush and a solution of baking soda and water to make sure the
seals are free of food residue.

4. Properly arranging items in the fridge.


We should cover the items inside the refrigerator and arrange them properly. This helps
minimize the moisture inside the refrigerator and prevents odors from migrating throughout
the compartment and creating a funny smell. It will also help us store and remove them
faster, which means that we won’t have to keep the door open for a longer time.
5. Regularly defrost.
Way back then we have a single-door refrigerator, and I find it fun to play with the ice that
accumulates in the freezer compartment every then. Now I understand why my mom
regularly defrosts it as not doing so can cause a waste of energy.
