DICT (Department of Information and Communication Technology)

DICT is an executive branch of the government that plans, develop, and promotes
National ICT development. Its mission is to provide every Filipino access to ICT
services and ensure sustainable growth for the Philippines and be the way that will push
the country towards its development and transition to a world-class digital economy.
The Department of Information and Communication Technology is the one responsible
for formulating and implementing national policies, plans, programs, and guidelines that
promote the development and use of ICT in the country. They coordinate with the
Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to educate young
minds and promote the ICT in education. Also, the DICT improves public access by
establishing a free internet service that is accessible by government offices and public
areas using the most cost-effective telecommunications technology and set rules and
regulations for the establishment, operation, and maintenance of ICT infrastructures in
underserved areas in the country. One of its projects is the Juan Konek Free Wi-Fi
Internet Access in public places that aims to bridge the gap of the digital divide and
eradicate it. This aims to provide free broadband internet access to every municipality
and city nationwide. The main goal of this project is to make internet access available
for all Filipinos to accelerate economic, social, and educational opportunities.
