CONCEIVING A BABY FOR SAME SEX COUPLES

By using an egg donor and gestational surrogate, one or more male partners can be
genetically related to their child(ren) by donating the sperm that will be used to fertilize the
egg(s).

The Illinois Center for Surrogacy is proud to provide family-building opportunities for gay
families in Illinois and around the world.

REBUTTAL:
Since same sex couples were not capable of conceiving a baby. Gay surrogacy uses the
traditional way. Meaning, the future baby will be related to the surrogate mother or the egg
donor.

This destroys the essence of marriage which is conceiving a baby from a man and a woman.
Two men or two women are obviously not able to have a baby because it requires a man and
a woman to have a child.

All children deserve to have a mother and a father. It's necessary for children to have a role
model from both sexes which are female and male. Using surrogacy as a solution to have a
baby will take the right of a child to have a real mother or parents.

SURROGACY HELPS COUPLES WHO CANNOT CONCEIVE A BABY

Many intended parents become close with their surrogate and her family during the process,
developing meaningful bonds that can last a lifetime.

REBUTTAL:
Carrying a baby for someone else is a big responsibility and most surrogates will experience
ups and downs throughout their journey.

A research conducted by bioedge says that, “Evidence of poorer attachment in surrogate

pregnancies should make us uneasy, as it can lead to problems for the children later on,”

Separation from the Gestational Mother. The baby could suffer trauma when it is separated
from its mother. This is well documented in cases of adoption.

Bonding to Commissioning Parents. “After being separated from their surrogate mothers,
newborns may face problems in reattaching to new parents,” Dr Tan writes. The
commissioning mother lacks a genetic link to the baby, which could lead to difficulties in
bonding. “Disconnecting childbirth from child-raising means commissioning mothers must
raise their infants without being able to draw upon the benefit of maternal–fetal sensitivity
and attachments in pregnancy.”
The desires of adult children. Children who want to meet their gestational mother in later
life will probably be frustrated in that desire. “Surrogacy leaves a child wondering about the
gestational, and possibly genetic, environment that so deeply formed the person he or she
became.”

SURROGATES RECEIVES A GENEROUS COMPENSATION

Gestational carriers receive a financial compensation for their commitment, time and risks
involved. On average, surrogates can expect to receive between $40,000 and $50,000 for
their willingness to carry a child.

REBUTTAL:
No amount of money can match the health risks of carrying a child. Pregnancy complications
are evident in surrogacy parents and the baby.

Becoming pregnant via embryo transfer lead to more serious health risks that could include:
● Gestational diabetes
● Damage to reproductive organs
● HypertensionMiscarriage

Preterm delivery has been reported to be increased in surrogate pregnancies. Dr. Woo who
examined live births of gestational surrogates versus spontaneous conception of the same
gestational surrogate, reported that surrogate births had a higher rate of preterm birth and it is
proven that the process makes it higher in health risks since the pregnancy isn’t done
naturally.
