INTRODUCTION
Why is surrogacy
done?
Same Sex Couple
Intracytoplasmic
Sperm Injection (ICSI)
KINDS/METHODS
OF SURROGACY
TWO PRIMARY TYPES OF
SURROGACY
TRADITIONAL SURROGACY
In this form, the surrogate is genetically related
to the child because her own egg is used for
conception. This method is less common today.
GESTATIONAL SURROGACY
In gestational surrogacy, the surrogate has no genetic
connection to the child. The embryo is typically
created using the intended parents' eggs and sperm
or donor gametes, and then implanted into the
surrogate's uterus.
METHODS

1. IN VITRO FERTILIZATION
Egg and sperm are fertilized outside
the body, and the resulting embryo is
then transferred to the surrogates
uterus .
2. ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION
The surrogate's egg is inseminated with the
intended father's sperm, either through intrauterine
insemination (IUI) or intracervical insemination (ICI).

3. INTRACYYOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION

A variation of IVF where a single sperm is directly
injected into an egg.
4. EMBRYO TRANSFER
This involves the transfer of one or more
embryos into the surrogate's uterus, usually as
part of an IVF procedure.

5. LEGAL AND ETHICAL AGREEMENTS

Regardless of the method used, surrogacy typically
involves legal and ethical agreements to establish the
rights and responsibilities of all parties involved.
IS COUNSELING
NECESSARY?

THE ETHICAL DILEMMA
FOR THE CHILD

The ethical dilemmas related to surrogacy

with regard to the child primarily revolve
around issues of identity, autonomy, and
the child's best interests. Some key
concerns include:
Identity and Genetic Connection

In gestational surrogacy, the child may not share a

genetic connection with the surrogate. This can lead to
questions of identity and the child's understanding of
their biological origins.
Autonomy and Consent

The child's right to know about their genetic origins is

important. Ethical questions arise about when and how the
child should be informed about their surrogacy and
whether they have a right to access information about their
biological parents or donors. Balancing the child's right to
this information with their emotional readiness can be a
challenge.
Best Interests

Decisions surrounding surrogacy should prioritize

the best interests of the child. Ensuring the child's
well-being and emotional development is a central
ethical consideration.
ETHICAL DILEMMA FOR THE
MOTHER
Many argue that surrogate arrangements depersonalize reproduction and
create a separation of genetic, gestational, and social parenthood. Others
argue that there is a change in motives for creating children: children are not
conceived for their own sakes, but for another's benefit. Much is unknown.
Abandonment
-If the intended parents decided to
abandon the child, the surrogate mother
may not be able to fully take care and be
responsible of the child, resulting in
repercussions.
Prostitution -The exploitation of poor
and low-income women desperate
for money.
