Indefinite Pronouns. SOMETHING, NOBODY, ANYWHERE.

Read the following conversation:


Boss: Did anyone call me when I was at lunch?
Secretary: Oh, yes. Somebody from the service center called about your cellphone, it is
ready. You can pick it up from 9 am to 8 pm on weekdays. Also, you need to call your wife
back, it is something about a school meeting. And finally, your friend Leo called, he did
not leave a message, he will call again.
Boss: Were there any calls about work?
Secretary: No, nothing like that.
Observa las palabras en negritas. Se llaman indefinite pronouns. Los pronombres
indefinidos, se utilizan para referirse a personas, lugares y cosas de manera no específica.
Los utilizamos en la forma negativa, afirmativa e interrogativa.

✓ Para referirnos a cosas utilizamos la combinación con THING.

✓ Para referirnos a personas usamos la combinación con ONE or BODY.

✓ Para referirnos a lugares la combinación con WHERE.


Ejemplo.
• ANY - anything anywhere anyone anybody (en general, se ocupan con oraciones
negativas y preguntas)
• NO- nothing nowhere no one nobody (se ocupa para expresar negación en forma
afirmativa, pero cuidado con la doble negación).
• SOME- something somewhere someone somebody (se ocupa para oraciones afirmativas)

Reading comprehension
A very important and beautiful place to visit in Guadalajara is “La Plaza de Armas.” In this
place you can relax and watch live music, visit the historic center and eat Mexican typical
food. This plaza has gardens, trees, benches and a bandstand where different musicians
show their talent and give joy to the people. Another name for this plaza is “Plaza Mayor”
and it is also a very popular meeting place in the city, surprisingly people love having
picnics in the Plaza, sitting on the grass and enjoying the wonderful weather of this city. At
night, the decorative lights give you a great view of the Plaza and a romantic atmosphere.
The restaurants and bars near the Plaza offer you a great variety of typical drinks and
dishes. You can take a tour by tram or by touristic-bus from the Plaza to the historical sites
downtown. Visit Guadalajara, you will love it!
