KOMATSU MINING GERMANY COMPONENT CODE [A5 PARTS & SERVICE [rxo] moos N E Ws DATE Sa 2000 SUBJECT: REPAIR OF OIL PUMP GEAR ON SAAGD170 ENGINE OF PC1100-6 PURPOSE: To introduce improved internal gears of the oil pump for SAA6D170 engines and their replacement procedures APPLICATION: — PC1100-6 Hydraulic Excavators Serial Nos.H10001 thru H10012 FAILURE CODE: A52038 DESCRIPTION L Introduction When the high capacity oil pump for the SAA6D170 engines is operated for a long pe ~ riod of time using deteriorated engine oil or with dust being mixed in the oil, tooth flanks of the internal gears may wear resulting, possibly, in breakage of these gears. When the aforesaid failure has occurred, make the modification introduced in this Service News to replace the oil pump with the improved pump incorporating the strengthened internal gears. Also, when making overhauling of the engine, be sure to overhaul the oil pump also and install the strengthened gears when the internal gears have been found worn. AH00501 Page 4 of 4 4, Modification procedures for the ofl pump Referring to the Shop Manual, remove the oil pump assembly from the engine to replace with the improved oil pump. Meanwhile, when reusing the current oil pump replacing the internal gears, follow the procedures outlined below. » 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Using the puller, pull out the drive gear ® from the drive shaft assembly ©. (Interference between drive ear and drive shaft: 0.023 - 0.059) Loosen the bolts @ (6 bolts) to open the cover @ and remove the internal gear assem- blies @ and ©. Check the status of the bushings ® being inserted into the cover @ and the body @ and, when deemed necessary, replace them with new parts. Install the improved gear assembly in the body @ and mount the cover @. At this time, apply sufficient oil over the sliding surfaces of the gears and try to turn the gears to make sure the gears turn smoothly before tightening up the bolts @. (Tightening torque: 27 - 34 Nm {2.8 - 3.5 kgm) Press-fit the drive gear ® as far as it comes flush with the shaft assembly @. At this time, check and make sure the clearance between the drive gear and the cover @ is about Imm. (Refer to the schematic diagram given at right.) After finishing the replacement work, stamp "A" behind the production num- ber indicated on the rear surface of the body flange. Tightoning torque: 27 — 34 Nm (2.8 —3.5 kgm) AHO00501
