2. Codes

In the past we used 30 sections for the classification of the Service Bulletins.
Now we have a very detailed organization of the information. This will alleviate the
search for information.
Attached you receive a PC -Program on 3 diskettes for working with the Component
Code, the Major Code and the Phenomen Code.

Major Code Part *

0 0 * Not used at the moment by KMG.

2.1 FAILURE CODE

The FAILURE CODE consists of 6 digits. The first four digits show the component
that is thought to be the cause of the failure, and the last two digits show the
phenomenon.

. • For all TSI (Technical Service Information) and all Warranty

claim application you have to state the Failure Code

2.2 COMPONENT CODE (4 digits)

The COMPONENT CODE consists of the MAJOR CODE, the COMPONENT and the
PART. KMG use only the MAJOR CODE at the moment. For the COMPONENT and
the Part we enter “0”.
Attached you receive a table with the MAJOR CODES and a picture with the
illustrated index.

2.3 PHENOMENON CODE (2 digits)

The PHENOMEN CODE contains the phenomenon that is the cause of the failure.
Attached you receive a table with the PHENOMENON CODES.

3. How to search for information

About half-yearly we will give you an Excel Chart with all our Service News issued
since January 2000. This chart is arranged after the Component Code.
If you are searching for a Service New you need the Component Code.
There are 3 methods of searching the Component Code:

3.1 Searching from illustrated index

Using the ILLUSTRATED INDEX , search for the 2-digit code for the major
component.
Example: Searching for the code for the arm cylinder packing on a hydraulic
excavator.
Using the hydraulic Excavator Index, locate the arm cylinder and check
that the 2-digit code is H1.

3.2 Searching from MAJOR COMPONENT INDEX

Using the table with the MAJOR COMPONENT INDEX, select the 2-digit code from
the major component name.
Excample: Searching for the code for the arm cylinder packing on a hydraulic
excavator.
Using the MAJOR COMPONENT TABLE, search for code H1 under the
name HYDRAULIC CYLINDER.

3. This is the first screen of the “Search Program”

Now you can search by Component Code(enter “2”) or by Component name(enter

“1”).
Follow for that the instructions on the screen.

3.3.2 Searching from the PC – program

Searching for the code for the arm cylinder packing on a hydraulic excavator.
1. Open the search program as above described.
2. Enter number “2”.
3. Now you find “H” as 1st digit for hydraulic cylinder.
4. Click on “H”. You find “1” as the 2nd digit.
5. Click on “Space” and then you will see the table of the PHENOMEN CODE.

4. Substitution of old Service Bulletins

After revision of an old Service Bulletin it gets a new number with an index
(1st revision).
Below the headline we will make a note which old Service Bulletin has been
substituted.
