The purpose of this handbook is to assist persons engaging in the design
and detailing of structural steelwork to perform this function more easily
and efficiently. The handbook contains information, in ready-reference
STANDARDS, SPECIFICATIONS, CODES AND REGULATIONS
form, relating to the entire scope of steel construction as used in buildings
and a large variety of other typical structures. It is intended to be used in
conjunction with SANS 10162: The Structural Use of Steel, Part 1 Limit- South African Government

Grade 5355JR steel has taken the place of Grade 350 WA for steel with a nominal
yield stress of approximately 350 MPa. • Part 1: Limit-states design of hot-rolled steelwork
