You can use a zig zag stitch in place of an interlock stitch if you don’t have access to a serger. A straight stitch will snap when stretched which is why you should only use it for very short seams like the crotch seam. It is not a suitable stitch for longer seams like the waist and leg openings. LINING FABRIC: The fabric you are using to line the inside of your garment. If you are making a reversible garment, | recommend using the same quality fabric you are using for your self-fabric for your lining. SEAM ALLOWANCE (S/A): The area between the edge of the fabric and the stitching line on two or more pieces being stiched together. TOPSTITCH: A stitch that appears on the outside of a garment. ZIG ZAG STITCH: A stitch setting on a sewing machine that is ideal for seams that need to stretch. Allows threads to stretch to prevent snapping. SERGE/OVERLOCK: A stitch that finishes the edges of one or more pieces of fabric. Made with a serger/overlock machine. 4-WAY STRETCH: Knit fabric that stretches in all 4 directions.
