1. The difference between tatting and crochet is that Tatting requires plotting your
way through multiple rows of the design, since loops of knots can extend through
several levels, and you need to include picots (loops of thread) to which you will
attach subsequent rows of the pattern.

There are two types of tatting. Needle tatting is worked on a long needle, while
shuttle tatting is worked onto the non-working portion of your thread. The actions
involved are quite different from those performed while crocheting, where stitches are
produced by pulling the thread or yarn through previously made loops with a hook. It is
always possible to tell how a finished work was made. The stitches used in crocheting
are quite different in appearance from those produced by tatting and also tatting is how
the thread is wound, looped and knotted. Tatting is made with the shuttle passing in, out
and around a loop of thread wound around your hand to tie a simple set of knots.

2. When Alexander's great-great-grandmother came across the Plains, "she

brought a hand-carved wooden shuttle with her. My mother is now 82, and last
Christmas she made tatted Christmas ornaments for all her grandchildren."
Alexander learned to tat when she was 11. "It connects me to the past," she
says.

Because Tatting dates back to the early-19th century and has become a sort
of lost art in modern times.

3. Purpose of macramé is a message center that was used to hold a writing utensil
and paper for leaving written messages as well as a hand towel or crafting a
textile or various decorations that use several types of knots to form a basic
shape.

Macrame is an easy and affordable way to add personality and decorate

your home.
