Overview
The Cisco NCS 1004 is a 2 RU DCI (Data Center Interconnect) optical transport platform for metro, long haul and subsea
applications. It features 4 line card slots. Each line card has 12 x QSFP-28 client ports, 2 x DWDM line ports, and is capable of a
maximum
priority_high throughput of 1.2Tb/s per line card.

Install cage nuts in the top and bottom rack holes the device will occupy. For example, if the device will be installed at RU5, install
cage nuts in the bottom hole of RU5 and the top hole of RU6.

1. Identify the front and back sections of the left and right rails.
2. Connect the rail sections by aligning the rivets on the front rail with the
hole on the rear rail.
1. Attach the front of the rails to the rear rack posts using two M6 or 10-32
screw (depending on the type of rack) for each rack
rail.
2. Attach the rear of the rails to the rear rack posts using four M6 or 10-32
screw (depending on the type of rack) for each rack
rail.

2. Attach the front and back of the slider brackets to the left and right rack
posts.

1. With the rear of the chassis facing the hot aisle, lower the back of the
chassis until the mounting bracket rail rests on the
rack rails.
2. Slide the chassis into the rack, toward the rear posts, until the mounting
bracket flanges are flush with the rail flanges
attached to the rack posts.
3. Attach the bracket to the rack post or extension bracket (if using) with the
provided screws.
2. Attach the ground lug to the ground point on the chassis with two M5 screws.

3. Attach the other ground lug to the ground bar or rack ground point with an
M8 screw or M6 screw and nut.
warning WARNING: Ensure that you are wearing an ESD wrist strap while handling line cards.
1. Remove a filler card from the chassis by unscrewing the two small screws on
the bottom left and top right of the card. In the
example below, the filler
card is being removed from Slot 0 which is in the top left-hand corner.
2. Pull the card out of the chassis, remove a line card from its antistatic bag
and store the filler card in the empty bag.

3. Slide a line card into the empty slot in the chassis and install the handle
for fiber management shipped with the line card.
4. Secure the line card by tightening the two small screws on the bottom left
and top right of the card.
2. Route the cable through the center slot in the cable management system and
then to the Hydra.
3. Connect a standard Cat5 cable to the MGMT0 port at the front of the
chassis.
4. Route the cable through the center slot in the cable management system and
then to the switch.

AC Power Installation
1. Connect AC power cables from C20 sockets on the PDU to the C21 power
receptacles on the chassis PSUs.

DC Power Installation
1. Verify that the correct micro BDFB is installed in the top mounting space.
2. Measure and cut the cables as needed to reach NCS 1004 from the micro BDFB.
3. Connect the battery and return cables according to the micro BDFB.
4. Attach the power lug to the device and tighten it using the two screws.

breaker.
