30. Anna : “I was thinking of holding the company retreat in the mountains.”
Brian : ”….”
Anna : “I was thinking it could take place sometime in January.
Brian : “That might be a little too cold for some people.”
Anna : “Yes, you are right.”
Brian : “What about April? April has good weather that isn't too cold or too hot.”
Anna : “Yes, that would be better.”
Brian : “You know, maybe we could take a survey to see how that works for
everyone.”
Anna : “Good idea! We’ll have to get right on it.”
Brian : “Fine! Well, I'll get right on it now!”
When sneaker culture first emerged in New York City in the 1980s, many local sneaker shops were run
by Korean-American immigrants. Due to retirement or competition from online retailers, the majority of the
stores have since closed. However, Gene Han, a second-generation Brooklyn business owner, worked hard to
balance his family's brick-and-mortar and digital operations, eventually establishing it as a multi-generational
company.
Han rebranded as Alumni of New York in 2013, with two branches in Brooklyn (Crown Heights, and
Flatbush) and one in Queens (Flushing). Han started working with Jaeki Cho, a Queens-based artist best known
for producing and starring in Bad Rap, a documentary about Asian hip-hop stars that featured Awkwafina and
Dumbfoundead, in 2014. Cho (31 years old, respectively) will join Han as a partner in 2018.
Cho explains, "We don't do volume business." “We have a unique brand that appeals to the local
community. We won't be required in 2021 to find the best prices. As a result, we generate original content that
resonates with customers, and many major brands enlist our services as strategic regional partners.”
Alumni is seen as an "image account" by brands such as Nike, Converse, and Adidas, who promote the
collaboration with special projects and exclusive launches. The business currently has 60 accounts. For example,
Alumni Flushing was chosen as the North American launch partner for Carhartt WIP's interpretation of the
Converse One Star, which was released in 2019.
All digital cameras essentially work in the same way. First, light is collected and focused by a lens, and
then captured on a digital sensor. The sensor saves that light information into an image file that you can view and
edit.
The difference between a DSLR camera and the other cameras on the market today is that a DSLR has
this mirror and prism system which is used to send light to the viewfinder. If you take the lens off a DSLR and
look inside the lens mount, you’ll see the mirror sitting at around a 45 degrees angle. It’s just reflecting the light
up towards the optical viewfinder.
When you press the shutter button, the mirror will flip up inside the camera, out of the way of the
sensor. Then the light will pass onto the sensor to record the image. This is why, when you take a photo with a
DSLR camera, the viewfinder goes dark when you press the shutter button. The mirror is no longer reflecting the
light, and so the viewfinder goes dark.
