"PRACTICE MAKES PROGRESS, NOT PERFECT "

March 16 2023 our practice teaching journey started, 10 students teacher from the
Samar State University was deployed at Motiong National High School (MNHS)
including 5 English major, 3 BPED and 2 science major.

On the first week of our practice teaching journey we only deliver the
communication and endorsement letter to the principal and distric in charge of
motiong. Thursday March 16 was our first day at MNHS we felt mixed emotion as we
enter the school or should I say my alma mater/my former school. We felt excited
but at the same time we are nervous considering it is the beginning of the true
journey of a practice teaching. It is the time that we need to apply all the learnings
and experience we've learn from the 4 years course we've taken and from our field
study course observation and in campus internship.

At exactly 8 am in the morning we arrived at the MNHS, As we enter I noticed

the changes of the structures of the building, the sorrounding, the different new
building and the aesthetic views, their are lots of painting and beautiful views to see.
We go straight to the principal's office to give the communication letter to the
principal Mr. Hector ponferada, to make him signed it because we need to pass the
copy of the letter to our students teacher supervisor at the ssu, together with the
signature also of the district in charge of Motiong which is Mrs. Josephine Bacsal.

After the short introduction we instructed by the students teacher coordinator

of motiong that we will have our pre orientation and deployment of teacher interns
and cooperating teachers on march 17( friday) Covered of the orientation are the
Rules and regulations of tge school, guidelines and introductions if teacher intern's
and cooperating teachers.

During the pre orientation and deployment we've learned a lot how mnhs
manage their school teachers stuff and learners protocols of the school and .the
students teacher coordinator assigned as which cooperating teacher would be
coordinated.

REFLECTION

To become a teacher is not a joke. It is one of the greatest challenges in one’s life to
be of service to young people, people who are in need of knowledge, proper values
and attitudes. When you are a student teacher, you will experience sleepless nights
trying to cope with the requirements of your course, trying to meet the expectations
of your supervisor, dean and cooperating teachers, who are all trying to expect
nothing but the best from you. Your life in the school where you are assigned brings
you so many challenges like writing daily lesson plans, preparing instructional
devices and mastery of your subject matter. You must also be very willing and eager
to listen to your cooperating teacher’s advice and attend to your pupils’ different
behavioral attitudes. In other words, you have to be a patient, loving, persevering
and hardworking student teacher no matter what happens. Everyday, as you go to
your school, your dreams and aspirations are all in your thoughts playing gently in
your mind whether you want “to be or not to be” a teacher. You are now on the last
stage of your course and you cannot help but feel happy, yet afraid of the challenges
ahead of you, the fear of being laughed at, of being criticized especially when you
start to teach in front of the class. Yet deep in your heart you have that confidence,
you take the risk for you know that there is no way out, there is no more turning
back except to accept the responsibilities on your shoulders. You must learn to smile
everyday to your students and fill the world with love for, after all, your role is not
only to be a future teacher but also to be a surrogate parent to your students. When
your cooperating teachers praise you for doing good in classroom teaching, and
when your dean or supervisor of student teaching believes in your teaching
competencies, be humble enough to thank them and feel that someday you too can
become a great teacher

DOCUMENTATION
2nd week
"BEING A NEW TEACHER IS LIKE TRYING TO FLY A PLANE WHILE BUILDING IT"

We had an observation this week due to the fact that timetables have yet to be
finalized and i need to choose if what grade should i handle for the rest of my
practice teaching journey. My cooperating teacher is still working on getting
everything in order so that i may start teaching next week.

We followed the same protocols this weekend observed both grade 7 and
grade 8. Every class begins with an opening prayer and an attendance check. Then
Ma'am Liberty Eclipse, my cooperating teacher reintroduce me to the class which
made me both happy and nervous because i'll be dealing with unfamiliar students in
the coming weeks. Ma'am Liberty began to revisit the preceding topics with grade
seven students, "arts and crafts of mindanao", ashort time later. It's encouraging to
learn that learners recall pass discussions. Some of them spoke up in class and voice
their opinions. We moved on to the following topic, Lesson 3- mental and emotional
health, Ma'am Liberty discuss and explain everything so that students to learn and
achieve the objective of the lesson. I was taking notes on the crucial concepts that
from liberty mentioned during the top additionally grade seven students were
actively participating and paying attention to the discussion. Ma'am Liberty
conducted a review after the lesson 3 talk to assess the students listening skills and
comprehension of the material. Fortunately the majority of the students participate
in sharing what they have learned.

Addition, since Ma'am Liberty is a MAPEH teacher, they are assigned to

organize the upcoming " Ginoo at Binibining Sining 2023". Considering that i am her
teacher intern i am also required to give my full cooperation to the said activity. I
need to extend my hand and assist whatever task they would giving me. How long
the process the MAPEH department head, Ma'am Alma Villarante requested if we
can help and assist the food and beverage students to beautify the presidential table
( skirting). We did it great and we arrange the chairs for visitors and the likes.

All in all the preparation was successful with the help of the staff and MAPEH
Department the venue was created amazingly.

In this week also we conducted the formal orientation and turnover of teacher
in paris from SSU to MNHS with our student teachers supervisor Ms Manilyn S.
Sablan from the Samar state university with the same program with our pre
orientation.

REFLECTION:

During the first two weeks I observed my mentor teacher, her teaching techniques,
her classroom management strategy and the discipline that she insisted on in her
classroom. The task ahead of me seemed a bit daunting but one I was excited about.
I did not truly understand what I was up against until I actually began co-teaching
during the next three weeks of the practice.

3rd week

"TEACHING IS ONLY DEMONSTRATING THAT IT IS POSSIBLE LEARNING IS MAKING IT

POSSIBLE FOR YOUR SELF"
In the third week of my practice teaching journey my cooperating teacher gives me
some activities to work on. She give me topics to make a lesson plan because i am
going to start my teaching career starting this week.

I am the third practice teachers to manage the class. It's an enjoyable and delightful
for me to take over the class because my students are extremely engaged and you
can tell they paying attention everytime i am discussing but there is also a time that i
cannot control some student considering students are diverse. They have different
opinion to learning style and way of coping up that is why i need to think critically so
that i could manage the class effectively and efficiently.

In this week i teach physical education component is specifically "the fundamental

position of arms and feet in folk dance" topic. It was easy for me to handle and
discuss this topic because this was our last topic in SSU. So i already have an idea
how to deliver it.

Along the discussion is students are very participative and active everything i
instructed they follow me they then they demonstrate the steps and the likes. From
that i realized that this section "fairness" learned lesson through demonstration and
visual. They want to see face to face the real discussion they can easily adapt, learn
and apply the discussion if they do it and see it.

From this situation i realized that little by little i can already manage a class i
can already teach in a real question and i can touch and influence other lives.

REFLECTION:

Week one was definitely the whirlwind for me. So many students, teachers and
support staff to meet. Learning students names and the layout of the school. Week
two for me has been all about establishing a routine for myself and the students.
Week three They are still getting to know me, and I am getting to know them. I can
put most faces to names in the classroom, and I’m working with the less vocal
members of my classes to make sure that I am involving them more in class activity,
and therefore I will get to know their names. I am making connections with students
as well – what are their interests? What do they want to do when they leave school?
I went to a production of the musical Grease on Friday night. Some of the students I
teach are in the production, and I did not know this. On Monday I will be able to talk
to them about this and tell them what a good job they all did. I want my students to
know that I am interested in them as people as well as students.
With regards to my teaching in the classroom, I am gaining in confidence. I know this
is early days yet with regards to my internship, but I am happy in how it is developing
and how my mentor teacher continues to give me tips, ideas, and more duties. I am
not afraid to dive right in. I believe this total immersion approach from my mentor
teacher works well for me in particular. This way, the students get more direct
instruction time from me. My mentor teacher and I are following a team teacher
approach right now. I think the students like this, as they have two teachers with
different backgrounds teaching them and I think at this early stage that they are
learning more as a consequence. The students have welcomed me into the
classroom.

4th week

"All students can learn and succeed but not in the same way and not in the same
day"

In the fourth week of my practice teaching journey we only attended two days
classes because MNHS is the venue for the district festival of talents and the rest was
holiday because of the holy week.

But a this week was a bit busy days because we did general cleaning meetings and
orientation for the festival of talents considering we practice teachers assigned to
assist and help our cooperating teachers and guiding the visitors.
So upon the attending classes and teaching i became more confident little by little
having contact with my students. In this fourth week i am still on the stage of getting
to know my students and vice versa. But amends of these difficulties i feel motivated
do to my mentor trust and guidance in me along my journey. I am happy that along
the four weeks in MNHS and in teaching i am forming a great student teacher
relationship, i am friends with the students but at the same time maintaining the
professional distance between the teacher and the students.

In addition this week was a great week for me because it was a long week holiday or
vacation. I have lots of time preparing lesson plans and instructional materials to
used. Considering i need to make three lesson plan for the upcoming week so that it
would not stressful for me during weekdays when the classes is started again. It
would be great if i finished all my lesson plan so that my task for the weekdays is to
just a study only my lesson plan.

REFLECTION:

I have been pretty much teaching solo all week, and I’m very grateful for the trust
my mentor teacher has in me. This has helped me to build my confidence. The more
contact time I am having with my students the more they get to know me, and the
more I get to know them. The two-week honeymoon period that teachers talk about
with students is over. I wondered what my students would ‘try on’ with me as I was
new. I’m happy to report that I am forming a great student/teacher relationship,
being mindful to be friendly with the students but at the same time maintaining that
professional distance between teacher and student. I know the students who need
attention during class, and I know those who are self-directed learners. This is
working out very well, and I’m glad these roles are being more and more defined as I
take on additional teaching responsibilities.

This coming week I have been preparing lesson plans and copying material for the
week to come. This has helped me to gain more ownership of the class, and I can
explain and describe to the class my expectations. The students are being really
helpful as I take on more activities, and are taking the transition of me as the lead
teacher in their stride. I feel I am becoming more comfortable with the students.
Week 5

" IN LEARNING YOU WILL TEACH, AND IN TEACHING YOU WILL LEARN"

This week, we discuss the music in Mindanao specifically the musical elements of
kulintang ensemble of Mindanao. Before we discussed our topic, I checked
attendance and said an opening prayer. I questioned them about our last meeting's
topic. It's also good to note that the majority of my students understood our prior
meeting's conversation. I wanted to know if my students knew anything about
kulintang ensemble and if they had encounter or hear it before. I discussed the
instrument of kulintang ensemble as well as element use in the kulintang ensemble
music.. We will have our oral recitation at the second meeting. While in grade 7
"faithfulness" I did the same, We began our class with an opening prayerand a
motivational activity, and then we moved on to our lesson. After our discussion, I
asked them if they had learnt, understood, and handed it in properly. I gave them
guidance on how to submit their activities to our Google Classroom and how to
prepare for our oral recitation the following meeting.
And we planned to prepare our powerpoint and lesson plan for the next topic at our
next meeting with my co-practice teacher. We must always ensure that our students
comprehend and are knowledgeable about the lessons we teach.

Aside from the actual teaching, I was involved with taking attendance, grading
papers and entering them into the computer/grade book. I feel this first week has
given me a full introduction in to the roles of a teacher. I’m really happy about this. It
was a lot to do in the first couple of days, but by Friday I could do exactly everything
that my mentor teacher had shown me during the week. But before that we need to
report to our school at SSU to pass the needed requirements for the whole months
and for the "kumustahan" about the happenings in our respected cooperating
school.
