THE AZTEC

The Aztec religion, social hierarchy, and slavery

are important elements to the Aztec Empire.

RELIGION
The Aztec religion believed in two manifestations
of the supernatural: tētl and tēixiptla. Tētl was
impersonal, mysterious force that permeated the
world, and tēixiptla is the physical representations
of the tētl.

RITUAL AND SACRIFICE

Like the other Mesoamerican cultures, the
Aztec played a ballgame named "tlachtli" or
"ollamaliztli". The loser of the game were often
ritually sacrificed as an homage to the gods.

AZTEC SUN STONE

The Aztec Sun Stone, which is also
called the Aztec Calendar Stone, was
carved in 1479. It was 3 feet thick,
almost 12 feet across, almost 25
tones. And it dedicated to the sun god.

SOCIAL HIERARCHY
The strict social hierarchy of the Aztec
Empire was devided into four groups of
people: the nobles, commoners, serfs,
and slaves.

SLAVERY
The Aztec slavery was special from other
civilization. Slavery was used as a punishment to
people who did the wrong things. You can also
volunteer to be a slave in the time of famine or to
pay off a debt. Slaves could marry freely, own
goods, house, lands, even their own slaves
