AIR POLITION IN MY COUNTRY

Life on Earth can no longer be free from pollution. The Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI)
defines pollution as fouling or polluting. Forms of pollution are quite diverse today ranging
from air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, to noise pollution. All pollution has a
negative impact, especially on health. Air pollution, for example, in addition to triggering
lung health problems, can also increase the risk of glaucoma, which can lead to blindness.

Air pollution is the contamination of the air by the presence of various pollutants beyond
the threshold. some of these pollutants have the chemical elements CO, NO, SO, SPM
(suspended particulate matter, O and various heavy metals such as lead. Globally, the major
contributor to air pollution comes from the transportation sector. Research published in the
Journal of Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science states that people who are
frequently exposed to air pollution have a six percent increase in glaucoma.

Quoted from Antara News, glaucoma can cause permanent blindness. This means that
blindness is irreversible. The most common cause is a buildup of fluid pressure in the eye and
then damage to the optic nerve that connects the eye to the brain. In addition, this pollution
can also affect a person's productivity. The long-term consequences can lead to economic
losses and socio-economic problems for families and communities. The WHO page reveals
that human life is currently surrounded by air pollution from various directions. Smog from
transportation has filled the air space to breathe. In addition, there is pollution from
households such as cigarette smoke to burning garbage, as well as smoke waste from
industrial plants that is very dangerous.

WHO noted that premature deaths due to air pollution reach 7 million cases per year. These
deaths are caused by air pollution through stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and acute respiratory infections. Meanwhile, air pollutants
can enter the body through three ways: inhalation, ingestion, and skin penetration. In fact, the
adverse effects of air pollution are also harmful to animal life (fauna). Air pollution is a real
environmental problem. Many countries have declared war to fight this pollution and
suppress the increase in global warming. Awareness-raising measures such as reforesting the
Earth by planting trees have been carried out as the “lungs of the world”. Reducing excessive
burning of plastic waste. Reducing the use of materials that are difficult to decompose,
recycling waste, installing air filters in factories so that industrial smoke waste does not
pollute the air.

From all these things, it is better for us as the younger generation to continue to raise
awareness of the importance of protecting the earth, and continue to improve how to clean the
earth from pollution completely.
