Training Course

Objective
To understand advanced knowledge of welding and inspection theory and application in the areas of

welding processes, defects and control.

 Non-destructive, mechanical testing and visual welding inspection techniques.

 Process of welding procedure specification (WPS) and qualified welder.

 Codes and Standards.

 Welding equipment functionality and applications/Limitations.

 International and national welder qualification programs.

 Identification of weld imperfections associated with pre-production, fabrication and post

fabrication.

 Inspection requirements based on International specifications or codes


Who Should Attend
Project Engineer, technologist, inspector, welding educator trainer, experienced welder, welding supervisor,
third party inspector and contractor who are involved in new welding fabrication, repairs, alteration, or
inspection of welded pressure equipment, structural steelwork and ship building.

Day 1 to 4 - Welding Inspection Technology Course

4 Days of the training will be used to cover the (Part-A) “Fundamentals” part of the examination that

covers all the facets of

 Welding Processes,

 Heat Control& Metallurgy (carbon and low-alloy steel),

 Weld Examination, Welding Performance,

 Definitions and Terminology,

 Symbols – Welding and NDE, Test Methods – NDE,

 Reports and Records, Duties and Responsibilities, Safety,

 Destructive Tests, Cutting, Brazing, Soldering.

Day 5 & 6 - Visual Inspection Workshop

2 days will be used to cover the (Part-B) “Practical” Part of the Examination.

 Procedure and Welder Qualifications

 Mechanical Test and Properties

 Welding Inspection and Flaws, NDE

 Utilization of Specification and Drawings


Day 7 & 8 - Code Clinic
2 days Will be used to expose and refresh your skills in comprehend the welding code books

(Part-C) including qualification of welding Procedure.

 AWS D1.1 - Structural Steel Code

 API 1104 - Pipelines

Day 9 - Practice for Exam

(Helps you prepare for the AWS CWI Exam)

Day 10 - Revision all Parts


(Helps you prepare for the AWS CWI Exam)
1 day will be totally dedicated to discussion and review session of Part - A, B, C

AWS CWI Examination Day

The AWS Certified Welding Inspector (AWS CWI) exams are held on the Sunday following the
training week at the same training location. All exam questions are multiple choices, and each
part of the exam is two hours long. A description of each part follows:

Part A: Fundamentals

 Closed book test; 150 questions.

Part B: Practical

 Hands-on test; 46 questions; use Book of Specifications.

Part C: Open Code Book

 Open book test; number of questions can vary (46-60) on the code you previously
selected.
Training Instructors

Instructors for AWS CWI training course are Certified International Welding Engineer by
International Institute of Welding (IIW), AWS Certified Welding Inspector, Welding
Inspector CSWIP 3.1, ASNT- Level II, API inspector, and Trainer for tank, vessel, piping
with 20 years of experiences in Oil & Gas. Metallurgy and corrosion subjects will be covered
by the specialist (PhD). For the trainees, instructors use a combination of English and local
languages as a medium of teaching make participants comfortable and easy to understand.
