LESSON TOPIC: Olympic Wrestling

OBJECTIVES:
Language:
Students will be able to summarize in both speech and writing what occurred during a
video of a wrestling match.

Content:
-Students will be able to identify the different wrestling positions from a video.
-Students will be able to predict and discuss what happens during a match.
-Students will be able to recall three different methods to win a match.

LEARNING STRATEGIES: Identify and Match, Predict the Match, Connections

KEY VOCABULARY: Freestyle, Step Out, Takedown, Neutral, Exposure, Partair, Clinch,
decision, fall, and technical fall

-Build background using common situations for some of the vocabulary terms
-Use the following examples including: Hugs, Babys crawling, a ninety degree triangle, coloring
outside the lines, a football tackle

PRESENTATION:

-I will give a lecture about free-style wrestling explainging how scoring works and how to win
-I will then take the previous pictures and place them along side the new vocabulary terms

PRACTICE AND APPLICATION:


(Meaningful activities, interaction, strategies, practice and application, feedback)
-For a guided practice students will watch a video and match the vocabulary word to its definition.

-For the Independent Practice students will watch a video and work with a partner to predict
when a wrestler will score, step out, or be in a clinch during the video. Students will also keep a
count of how many vocabulary words they see during a match.

REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT:

-The students will write their predictions down and discuss after the video how accurate their

-We will then come back together into a big group and discuss their predictions and review any
vocabulary terms that they saw in the match.
