Dear Hiring Manager,

I’m writing to you today about the Freelance Editor job your company posted on
GlassDoor. I am currently a senior at the University of Oklahoma and I will achieve my
Bachelor’s of Arts in English: Writing this coming May. I am excited at the prospect of
getting back into copy editing after my internship with World Literature Today magazine
in 2021. My work both within my major, as well as during my internship, makes me an
excellent candidate for the freelance editor position.

My internship with World Literature Today magazine gave me a lot of experience

working as a copyeditor in a professional setting. During my time working there I revised
8 different pieces, working with the author, in preparation for publication. During this, I
learned to work on a quick timeline and provide fast critique and revision. I also learned
how to research and fact-check aspects of writings to ensure that the piece is not
misrepresented.

During my time at OU, I have gained a lot of experience revising not only my own work
but that of others as well. While attending a creative writing class, I participated in 8
separate literary workshops. During these workshops, I gained insight not only on how
to deconstruct and analyze writing but also how to provide valuable feedback and
critique. Outside of this class I also provided personal copyediting to many of my peers,
working on over 60 works. I also have written over 86 works that fall within compliance
of MLA or APA style formatting.

I am excited to interview with your company and discuss how my qualifications would
make me a great candidate for the Freelance Editor position. I can be contacted at
(123)-456-7890 or at nrsmith@ou.edu. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Nicolas Smith

Dear Hiring Manager,

Thank you so much for taking time to talk to me Wednesday about the Freelance Editor
position at your company. Our conversation was very insightful and provided me with a
perspective on future responsibilities at the company.

During the interview you stated that knowledge of formatting was vitally important for the
position and that my experience in following style guides will help me greatly with this. I
find that understanding these style guides has also provided an easier route to learning
and understanding other more specialized style formatting such as Chicago writing.

I’m excited by the prospect of being able to aid people in one of the last steps in their
writing journey. Thank you again for your time and the information you provided during
the interview. Please let me know if you have any further questions. I look forward to
hearing from you and your company.

Sincerely,
Nicolas Smith
