Ans. The World Wide Web or simply web is a subset of the internet which contains
huge amount of information in the form of text, graphics, audio, video etc., that
can be accessed via the internet.
4) What is TCP/IP?
Ans. The TCP/IP protocol (a set of rules) is a needed for the working of the internet.
5) What is a URL?
Ans. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. It refers to the unique address or
location of a website.

1) Describe the history of Internet.
Ans. The history of internet began with development of electronic computers in the
1950s. Later in 1969, the Department of Defence of the United States of America
set up a network of computers called ARPANET.
2) Explain the term web browser. Also, write names of any five-web browser.
Ans. A web browser is a software application that enables the users to locate and access
the web pages. The browser translates the basic HTML code that allows us to see
the images, text, videos and listen to audios on a webpage and takes us to other
web pages on clicking hyperlinks. A web browser gets in contact with the web
server and requests for the information the web server receives the information and
displays it in the browser. Some popular web browsers are Microsoft Edge,
Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera and Google Chrome.
3) Distinguish between a web page and website.
Ans. Website: A website is a collection of interrelated webpages that provide
information to the user. Some websites allow the users to place orders
automatically.
Web Pages: A web pages contains the information in the form of text, graphics,
hyperlinks or sounds and is accessed through a web browser. It is created using
Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). Web pages from the building blocks of a
website.
4) How does data travel over the Internet? Describe.
Ans. The TCP/IP protocol (a set of rules) Is needed for the working of the Internet.
When data transferred from one computer to another over the Internet, it is broken
into pieces using transmission control protocol (TCP). These pieces are called
package that are numbered serially. The Internet protocol adds the IP address (a
unique address) of the sender computer (node) and the recipient computer (node)
to each packet so that it reaches the correct recipient. The recipient computer
receives packets in random manner (It may even receive before 1 arrives). If a

packet is grabbed or lost, it is demanded again. The packets are assembled in the
order they were sent and the original message is obtained.
