A Detailed Lesson Plan in Sience (Grade 4)

Third Quarter
Prepared by Josefina D. Velado

I. OBJECTIVES
Learning Competencies: S4FE-IIIf-e-3 Describe light waves.

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

 Describe how light travel.

 Investigate properties and characteristics of light.

II. CONTENT

Subject Matter: Light Waves

Time/Allotment: 30 minutes
Materials: Laptop,
Reference: K-12 MELCS

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. PRELIMINARIES

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

(Teacher will enter the classroom)

“Good Morning Grade 4- Mabuhay!” - Good morning ma’am!”

“I’m Teacher Fina your teacher in Science”

- One student will lead the prayer
“Let us stand and let’s have our opening prayer”

“Please pick up the pieces of paper - Student pick up the pieces of paper
around you.”

(Checking of attendance) - Students raise their hand and say present

….Say present….

“ As we go on to our very interesting disscus-

sion, I want you to know our rules in the class and
should be follow everyday in our discussion.
1. Sit properly.
2. Listen and participate to the discussion
3. Raise your right hand if you want to ask
Question and clarification.
- Yes, Teacher
*Understand Class?

B. REVIEW

“ We had already finished discussing about Sounds.

Before we move on to the next topic, let us have a - (in their own idea)
recall of what is Sounds and echo” Yes Maya?

“Okay Very Good Maya”

Can you give me an example that something have - Radio

sounds Jv?

“Very Good! Palakpakan natin sya.”

C. INTRODUCTION

MOTIVATION

“ Teacher present a music video about the

Light topic”.

-Okay class Im presenting a music video and I want

you to listen while duet or doing sway your body if
you want and enjoying the video. Is that okay? Opoooo, teacherrrr

* After watching I would ask atleast 2 students what

they learned about the music video and what talks
about the video. - Light po teacher
“ Okay pogie, Do you enjoy the music video? So the
video talks about what?
“Very Good Clapping our hands”

D. PRESENTATION OF THE NEW LESSON

ANALYSIS

-Okay class ill show a picture then you can raise your
hand if you want to answer what picture that I
present.
- Kidlat

-Yes, teacher
What do you think is that?
- When raining teacher
Did you already see that in the personal?

That light when can seen?

-Very Good ganda at pogie! Palakpakan

E. ABSTRACTION

* Class are you readay to learned? -Yes ma’am

- Come on lets get started
Light Travel
Ask. Have you ever seen a lightning flash in the sky?
Have you ever heard a thunder. Which do you think
travels faster, is it a light or a sound?

* Light travels faster than the sound

- Lightning is an electrical discharge caused by

imbalances between storm clouds and the ground, or
within the clouds themselves.

* Many scientist have been studying the nature of

light.
- some say the light behaves like a wave
* Other scientists say that light behaves like a group
of particles
- Light always travels in a straight line when going
through a single medium, any subtance through
which a light wave can travel.

* To understand light we must study how it interacts

with different objects

*Optics -is a branch of science that study

Refraction, Reflection, Absorption and
Transmission

* REFRACTION- refers to the bending of light as it

passes thorug the different materials.
“For example the pen in a glass of water appears bent
because the different parts of the materials interacts
with light. The parts of the pencil that is not deep in
the water interacts with the water. Light moves faster
in the air than in water This is the reason why the
pencil looks bent”.

* REFLECTION- is when light bounces off an

object, Smooth, Shiny
-like glass, water polished metal
So the light will reflect at the same angle as it hits the
surface.

-Some objects with an even surface reflect light in

scattered way.

* ABSORPTION- Refers to a material taking in of

light and not reflecting it.

* TRANSMISSION- refers to the passing of light

through some materials.
- Objects that allow the most of the light to pass
through them are called TRANSPARENT

* Objects that allow some light to pass througj them

are translucent

-there are also

* Objects that do not allow light to pass through them
it is callled OPAQUE
- such as
F. APPLICATION

“ill show a video about light again and then the

students should watch carefully and take down Yes, ma’am
notes”.

- Yes, ma’am

Ask: Do you understand the discussion in the video?

Okay very good! This is your candy.

And now after I discussed our lesson I would like to

divide you in two group’s . And your group shoud
describe the picture and know what optics branches of
the pictures.

GROUP 1: REFRACTION

TRANSPARENT

Group 2: OPAQUE

REFLECTION
- is a branch of science that study
Refraction, Reflection, Absorption and
Transmission
GENERALIZATION:

“Let us see if you reaally understand the lesson.”

“ What is optics?

-REFLECTION
(ill show a mirror and something
that can reflect in the mirror then, the students guest
what sample i showing to them).

IV. EVALUATION

Instruction: Get 1/4 paper and answer the question. Write TRUE if the statement is correct and write FALSE
If the statement is wrong.

1. Light can be reflected if it is directed towards a mirror.

ANSWER: TRUE
2. Refraction is the bouncing back of light that strikes a clear surface.
ANSWER: FALSE
3. When somebody faces a mirror, his reflection can be seen in a reversed manner.
ANSWER: TRUE
4. Light travels faster in air that in liquids.
ANSWER: TRUE
5. The speed of light remains the same even if it travels from one material to another.
ANSWER: FALSE
