Introduction
Nusrat Mahmud Ananna is a surprising 27 years old Bangladeshi entrepreneur. Currently, she is
leading a brand “BOLD” an online clothing store that focuses on making dresses
exclusively for plus-size women. Not only is this initiative one of the first of its kind
in our country, it once again reminds us that beauty should not be bound by size.
Nusrat graduated in Economics from United International University in 2018. He is the eldest of
four siblings. As the father died, the family had to take care of the family. Nusrat got married in
2019.
Business details
Idea generation
When Nusrat Growing up, she never found clothes she wanted to wear. While shopping, she felt
ashamed of the possibility that she would not fit in any garment she tried on. The "free size" was
not free enough. Even when she did find clothes of her size, they would either be very limited in
options or made of boring colours. She would dream of the fashion she wanted to wear, and
maybe, those dreams finally led her to create “BOLD”. Nusrat Mahmud's father Jaglul Haider
Mahmud was a successful businessman. He died 9 months ago. Nusrat said, she got
encouragement from her father and learned the business mainly from him. And husband Saad
Ahmed is providing full support in business work. He is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating
Marketing strategies
Since the message is everyone's right and freedom to fashion, there is no such thing as
a size chart in BOLD. Any dress of your choice will be customised to fit you as per
your instructions. Besides design and colours, comfort is also a top priority. Nusrat
mostly likes to use premium georgette in her work as this light fabric gives the perfect
fit and flair. Also, its wrinkle-free nature means we can save the extra minutes needed
to iron dresses. The fashion industry is highly competitive and a plus-size girl who
aspires to be a model is often told to either lose weight or lose the dream. However,
BOLD says otherwise. From the beginning, Nusrat focused on creating a platform
where plus size models can come forward and showcase their talent. "she needed
women to feel like that can relate to their representation." Nusrat said, "And the best
way of doing that was to work with plus-size models."
Challenges
Nusrat also faces challenges in business. She said, despite the demand, clothes are not available
in the market. Because the buyers who buy clothes here are hobby buyers. They have to make a
slightly different dress from the conventional style. And increasing the price of everything, the
price of clothes also increased. The tailor who makes clothes, his wages have increased. Thus
Vision
Entrepreneur Nusrat Mahmood (Ananna) said, 'Bold and beautiful is not only for slim or skinny.
We who are fat are beautiful too. We also want to do fashion. Everyone must be health
conscious. But no one wants to become dry or slim in a day or two. He has to go through a
process. So at this time, his hobby will not die. No one should feel bad just for being fat. And
whether a person will be dry or fat, that is also his matter. Therefore, under no circumstances
Mission
Nusrat dreams of having his factory in the future. Apart from making clothes for women of any
body type, she is also thinking of working with fat men's clothes. With time Nusrat plans to
expand the initiative to include women of all ages and sizes. "Whether you are a size
zero or a plus, you are beautiful. And we will make sure you always feel that way,"
Weaknesses:
Lack of brand recognition and loyalty among consumers.
Limited resources
Dependence on a few suppliers
Highly competitive market
Opportunities:
Growing the online shopping brand
an increasing number of online shoppers
possibility to expand into new markets
Collaborating with influencers can help increase brand awareness and credibility among
consumers.
Threats:
Economic downturns can impact consumer spending and reduce demand for fashion
products.
Established brands with loyal customers can make it difficult for a new brand to gain
market share.
Copycat competitors can imitate the brand's products and offerings, making it difficult to
differentiate.
Today, Ananya is known by her name, not her father, through her initiative. She was already
awarded by Unilever “Rin namkora Nari” for her plus size fashion brand “BOLD”.
Conclusion
In conclusion, starting a new brand can be a challenging yet rewarding venture for
entrepreneurs. The key to success is to differentiate the brand from competitors and
provide excellent services. By focusing on these key areas, entrepreneurs can create a
profitable and sustainable brand that caters to the needs of their target audience.
