The solid waste disposal facility of Carrascal is located at Eco-Park, Cayawyawan, Brgy. Bon-ot, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur which could be accessed
for a distance of approximately 4.7 kilometers northwest of Carrascal Municipal Hall. Its topography can be described as gently sloping, having an inclination
approximately around 15-20o. No perennial stream traverses the area. The nearest water body is Cayawyawan River located about 265 meters northeast and
the other river that is adjacent to Brgy. Bon-ot located about 667 meters southwest.
Table 47:. Quantity of Waste Disposed (in tonnes/year) and Composition of Waste Disposal
Based on the 10 Year ESWM Plan of Carrascal, the daily waste generated per capita on its baseline year (2015) is 0.38kg which is below the
nationwide average of 0.40kg (NSWMC 2020 Database). On the waste composition, Biodegradable waste has 50.45% of the total waste generated while
Recyclable is 33.29% followed by Residual 15.26% and the lowest is special waste with 1% (based on WACS). Moreover, it is projected that by 2025, the
amount of waste disposed will significantly reduce provided that waste diversion efforts will increase.
EXISTING FACILITIES
1 Eco-Park established located in Brgy. Bon-ot with an area of 15 hectares
2 Garbage Trucks servicing collection of garbage in 11 barangays
The Municipality has a Category 1 Sanitary Landfill which will serve as a disposal facility for residual wastes as mandated by RA 9003. It includes two
cells with a capacity of 10,000 tons for each cell and estimated to have a lifespan of 10 years provided that only residual wastes are disposed. There are also
other components of the sanitary landfill such as weigh bridge, leachate pond and treatment facility. In addition, Materials Recovery Facility and septic vaults
are also established in the Eco-park to cater other types of waste.
The creation of the Municipal Environment & Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) is one of the benchmarks of
the LGU in terms of protecting the environment. It enables to assess the current situation of the natural resource.
