A pleasant morning everyone, this is Kurt Louis Hipolito and I ‘am here to give a brief

discussion about the sources of water pollution.

We cannot deny the fact that almost every human activity, from growing crops, consuming foods,
manufacturing products to generating electricity has the potential to cause pollution into the
environment. And there are many kinds of pollution, and this morning I will emphasize the water
pollution and its sources where according to regulatory bodies which has the duty to protect the
environment, we can identify the two main categories of it, which are the point-source and non-
point source.
Point sources of water pollution are those that release water contaminants directly into the water.
This includes oil wells near bodies of water, industries, power plants, underground coal and so
on. This means that from its name, POINT SOURCE, this source can be easily identified since
we can determine the single place where it comes from. For example, an incident of oil spill to a
river, we can identify the responsible parties that cause it since there are only few companies in a
single area that can be held accountable.
On the other hand, we have the On-point sources that do not have a precise site for dumping
pollutants into a body of water. The best example of this is runoff, specifically runoff from
agricultural fields, lawns, gardens, construction sites, roads and streets. Another way of saying it
is the opposite of the first one since it is not easy to identify and may come from many sources.
And that concludes the sources of water pollution, I’m now passing the floor to the next
presenter.
