CHAPTER
I. Modems:

A modem is a network device that encodes and decodes digital

information for processing by modulating and demodulating
analogue carrier signals. Due to the simultaneous completion of
both of these functions by modems, the term modem is a mix of
the words "modulate" and "demodulate." There are many types of
modems such as dial-up, DSL, external and internal.

II. Gateway:

A gateway is a network device referred to as a telecommunications

network node that joins two networks using various transmission
protocols. A gateway acts as a network's point of entry and
departure because all data must transit through it or connect with it
before being forwarded.

III. Wireless Access Point:

An access point is a wireless network device that performs the role

of a portal for devices to connect to a local area network. Access
points can be utilized to outspread the wireless coverage of an
existing network therefore increasing the number of users that are
able to connect to it.

2.WHAT IS MEANT BY THE “COLLISION DOMAIN” AND THE “BROADCAST
DOMAIN”. DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE HUB, BRIDGE, SWITCH, AND
ROUTER, IN TERMS OF THE COLLISION AND THE BROADCAST DOMAINS.
Collision Domain: The area of a network where packet collisions can happen is known as
a collision domain. When two devices transmit a packet simultaneously on a shared
network segment, a collision is detected. Network efficiency is decreased as a result of the
packet collision and subsequent resending by both devices.

Broadcast Domain: The domain to which a broadcast is forwarded is known as a

broadcast domain. All devices that may communicate with one another via broadcast at
the data link layer (OSI layer 2) are included in a broadcast domain.
