When God Speak

As believers, a lot of time we get upset or desperate because we feel that God
does not speak to us or respond to us when we need him the most; therefore, we
often find ourselves confused and discourage not knowing what God’s purpose
and direction for my life is and how do I know exactly what God is calling me to
do.
I believe all of us have struggle with this at some point in our Christian walk, and
today, I believe God wants to help us identify and clear a few things in our
hearts about when he speaks.
When God Speak
1. Who is he speaking to?
2. Are we listening?
3. Through whom is he speaking?

1. Who is he speaking to?

A lot of times we are reading scripture and we think or believe that the word we
are reading is a word that was for the Israelites and the people of the past and
you are correct in that assessment it was for them; however, it is very important
for you and I to know that the same word that was for the Israelites and the
people of God in the past also speaks to us today and it is applicable to our lives.
The Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not
change based on culture or anything New happening in our society. (He remains
the same). Don’t believe that lie that the Bible is outdated and that it has been
translated so many times that it is no longer credible. Most people that believe
and say that usually are living their lives in a way contrary to the Bible and do
not want anyone to challenge their lifestyles or their view on life.
The enemies of the faith beginning with the Devil as always tried to diminished
the word of God and make us think that God did not mean what he said when
he told Adam and Eve in the garden in Genesis 3 New International Version

3 Now the serpent was craftier than any of the wild animals the Lord God had
made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree
in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of
the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
You notice who God spoke to? He spoke to Adam and Eve, and when God
speaks he wants obedience, today he speaks to you and to me as well and the
same way he Spoke to Adam and Eve and told them not to eat from the tree
that is in the middle of the garden (The Tree of the Knowledge of good and Evil)
it is the same way today God is speaking to us saying don’t eat from this Tree
and what the world has to offer, because any tree that has good and evil in it
mixed in can produce fruits of confusion, sorrow and disappointments where
truth and lies are combined and that is detestable to God. The worst type of lie
is the one that has a lot of truth in it. Do you know that rat poison has 95% of
good stuff in it, it is the 5% that kills.
Deuteronomy 28:1 Berean Study Bible
“Now if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God and are careful to
follow all His commandments, I am giving you today, the LORD your God will set
you high above all the nations of the earth.
God is speaking to us and he wants to do great things in our lives, he wants to
bring about victories in our homes, in our families, in our jobs and in our
personal relationship with him but we must be willing to pay the price of
Obedience and recognize he is talking to US. Romans 15:4 New International
Version
4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that
through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they
provide we might have hope.

God made sure to write his words so we can listen and know he is speaking to
his people. Let’s pay attention and be obedient. Now that we know he is
speaking to us.

2. Are we listening?
Matthew 23:37 New International Version
Often when we think of listening to God we believe that God has to speak to me
in an audible voice and therefore if I am not hearing his voice he is not speaking.
That is so far from the truth. Often God is speaking, but we are not listening
because either we are listening to the voice of our emotions, problems and
challenges we are facing. We allow these things to become louder and louder in
our lives and that begins to nullify what God is saying through his word. Also
keep in mind that we don’t listen many times to GOD is because we do not like
what he is saying. Most of the times when he speaks it will take us out of our
comfort zone and provoke changes we are not willing to experience. The
Israelites did not want to listen to God’s voice and sought after other pagan
gods and they ended up slaves in Egypt, and captive in Babylon and ultimately
many of them away from the God of their forefathers. Like the Israelites we
have often put away the voice of God to listen to the voices of social media, the
voice of what pleases me and the voice of my feelings and opinions and some of
us are further away from God than never before. Today God wants to gives
another opportunity to hear what he is saying about you and about me in order
to change the way we live, think and find out his will and his purpose for our
lives.
listen to what the Lord is saying to you today and take hold of these words and
apply them to your life:
1 Peter 5:6–7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the
proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares
for you.

"For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, 'Fear not, I
am the one who helps you.'"
John 16:33
"In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the
world."
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus.
Psalm 34:4–5, 8
I sought the LORD, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to Him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. Oh,
taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
1 John 4:9 New International Version
9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into
the world that we might live through him.
Matthew 6:31–34 (NIV)
"So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or "What
shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His
righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not
worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has
enough trouble of its own."

When you can’t hear God’s audible voice, he is always speaking through his word.
Mark 10:46-52 New International Version
46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large
crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of
Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was
Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Bartimaeus heard and then he saw. The Bible says Faith comes by hearing and
hearing the word of God. His miracle was activated when he put his Faith in
what he heard not what he saw. He heard Jesus was near and he cried out until
he got his breakthrough. Please don’t give up on God, because he has not giving
up on you.
This makes it clear to me and it should make it clear to you that God has always
spoken to his people the question here is are we Listening to HIM?

3. Through whom is he speaking?

Hebrews 1: 1-2 New International Version
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times
and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,
whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the
universe.
The Lord is saying I have been speaking through the ages, I spoke to man and
woman in the past through the Prophets and I am speaking today through my
Son, through the word of God. Just like in the past Israel and the nations
surrounding them did not listen to me. Today in many ways the Church and the
people in our society are not listening either. The Plan of God was to use the
Prophets to speak to his people Israel and then have his people speak God’s word
to the surrounding nations. The same way today God’s plan is to have his Church
listen to the Prophets and his Son to speak to our society the word of God and
model how we should be living.

Matthew 23: 37 New International Version

37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,
how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her
chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

Why would they kill the people God is using to speak his word to them. The Issue
here was that the prophets were speaking what God’s people did not want to
hear; so therefore, I they kill them. I wonder if we are guilty of killing God’s
messenger when we don’t like what they are saying. Not a literal killing, but you
know how we can kill someone by gossiping or making them feel like what they
are saying has no value etc.. If you pay attention God’s intention through these
man were to gather his children like a hen gathers her ckicks. A Hen is a
defenseless animal yet when danger comes it will never abandoned their
offspring, they immediately gather their chicks under the shadow of their wings
and put up a fierce defense striking fear into their opponent in the midst of a
frightful clamor. They will put their own body at risk to preserve their lives.
Jesus was letting them know that if they had allowed the prophets to speak into
their lives, when he showed up, they would have received him and recognized
that the one speaking to them was the one everyone before him had been trying
to present to them. Israel’s problem was not that they did not believe Jesus, their
problem was that they did not believe the prophets. Not believing Jesus is a result
of that.
How does this apply to me today, and why we are not hearing God when he
speaks. Lets see a scripture I would like to share. Luke 24: 13-16 and 25-32 New
International Version

13
Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about
seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about
everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with
each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were
kept from recognizing him.

25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the
prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and
then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he
explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on
as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it
is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it
and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened, and they
recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other,
“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and
opened the Scriptures to us?”
Example: The Wise and Foolish Virgins: Those who hear what God is saying are
not just satisfied with having a Lamp (The Word) but they know they have to have
oil (Anointing and Understanding) and a price needs to be paid. It is not enough to
just come to Church, it is not enough to just come to Inflexion but we must come
with a desire to hear from God and be receptive to everything he is saying in the
Old and New testament in order to know and Identify what he is saying to me
today.

Lets Pray.
