TYPHOID FEVER

Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection that can spread

throughout the body, affecting many organs. Without prompt
treatment, it can cause serious complications and can be fatal.
It's caused by a bacterium called Salmonella typhi, which is
related to the bacteria that cause salmonella food poisoning.

Symptoms
-Typhoid fever gets its name from a high fever that can last for weeks if left
untreated. It often gets progressively worse over a few days.
Other symptoms of typhoid fever include:
Headache.
Chills.
Loss of appetite.
Stomach (abdominal) pain.
“Rose spots” rash, or faint pink spots, usually on your chest or stomach.
Cough.
Muscle aches.
Nausea, vomiting.
Diarrhea or constipation.

HOW TO PREVENT
-In order to prevent typhoid fever you must
drink clean water, keep your surroundings
clean and practise good hygiene like wash
your hands frequently, use alcohol-based
sanitizers, avoid drinking untreated water,
clean raw fruits and vegetables, eat hot
foods and get vaccinated.
STEP THROAT
-Viruses cause most sore throats. However, strep throat
is an infection in the throat and tonsils caused by
bacteria called group A Streptococcus (group A strep).

Symptoms
-In general, strep throat is a mild infection, but it can be very
painful.
Common symptoms may include:
Fever
Pain when swallowing
Sore throat that can start very quickly and may look red
Red and swollen tonsils
White patches or streaks of pus on the tonsils
Tiny, red spots on the roof of the mouth, called petechiae
(pronounced pi-TEE-kee-eye)
Swollen lymph nodes in the front of the neck
Nausea or vomiting

Prevention
The best way to keep from getting or spreading group A
strep is to wash your hands often. This is especially
important after coughing or sneezing and before
preparing foods or eating.
To prevent group A strep infections, you should:
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you
cough or sneeze.
Put your used tissue in the waste basket.
Cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow,
not your hands, if you don’t have a tissue.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at
least 20 seconds.
Use an alcohol-based hand rub if soap and water are
not available.
MEASLES
Measles is a very contagious infection that causes a total-body skin
rash and flu-like symptoms. Measles is rare in the United States
thanks to widespread immunization. But millions of cases happen
worldwide every year.
Measles (also called rubeola) is caused by a virus, so there's no
specific medical treatment for it. The virus has to run its course. A
child who is sick should drink plenty of liquids, get lots of rest, and
stay home from school or daycare to prevent spreading the infection.

Symptoms
a high temperature
a runny or blocked nose
sneezing
a cough
red, sore, watery eyes

Prevention
Wash hands regularly
get vaccinated
stay ayaw from people who may have the disease
