The final item to mention about rhythmic notation concerns bar lines. The bar lines
divide the music into segments of equal length, but the final bar line of a piece of music
is written in a special manner. This symbol is called a douhle bar line, and it may consist of
two thin lines or a thin line followed by a thick line. You have already seen several double
bar lines, such as in the exercises in Practice Boxes 2.6 and 2.7. When you write a double
bar line in your own manuscripts, you typically will write two thin lines because it is easier
and faster.

Introduction to Two-Part Rhythms


The following rhythms involve tapping simultaneously with both hands. Each hand will
tap a unique rhythm. Tap the upper staff with the right hand and the lower staff with the
